Reading

2014-2015 Goal: Goal Met

During the 2014-2015 school year, Decorah’s Carrie Lee Elementary will decrease the number of students in 3rd and 4th grade scoring non proficient on the reading subtest of the Iowa Assessments.

Explanation: During the 2013-2014 school year, 40 students in grades 3 and 4 were not proficient in the area of reading. During the 2014-2015 school year, 32 students in grades 3 and 4 were not proficient in the area of reading, which is a decrease of 8 students in the not proficient range.

2015-2016 Goal:

During the 2015-2016 school year, Decorah’s Carrie Lee Elementary will increase the percentage of fourth grade students scoring proficient on the reading subtest of the Iowa Assessments.

Math

2014-2015 Goal: Goal Met

During the 2014-2015 school year, Decorah Middle School will increase the percentage of proficient 7th and 8th grade students scoring in the advanced range of the math subtest of the Iowa Assessments.

Explanation:

During the 2013-2014 school year, 104 7th graders and 106 8th graders were proficient in math. Of these, 55 7th graders and 47 8th graders scored in the advanced range for a total of 49.5% of proficient students. Because Decorah Middle School scores so well in the area of math, with high levels of proficiency, we expect to increase the percentage of students scoring in the advanced range. During the 2014-2015 school year, 113 7th graders and 107 8th graders were proficient in math. Of these, 68 7th graders and 54 8th graders scored in the advanced range for a total of 55.5% of the proficient students.

2015-2016 Goal:

During the 2015-2016 school year, Decorah High School will increase the percentage of students in tenth grade who score at grade level (50%tile or higher) from the percentage of ninth grade students who scored at grade level in the 2014-2015 school year. The measure used will be the math assessment on the Iowa Assessments.

Science

2014-2015 Goal: Goal Met

During the 2014-2015 school year, Decorah High School will increase the percentage of students in ninth grade who score at grade level (50%ile or higher) from the percentage of eighth grade students who scored at grade level in the 2013-2014 school year. The measure used will be the science assessment on the Iowa Assessments.

Explanation: During the 2013-2014 school year, 118 0f 143 students or 82.5% of the eighth graders were at the 50%ile or higher on the Iowa Assessment science assessment. During the 2014-2015 school year, 119 of the 135 students or 88.1% of the ninth graders were at the 50%ile or higher on the Iowa Assessment science assessment. This is a 5.6% increase in proficiency on the science assessment from the last testing period.

2015-2016 Goal:

During the 2015-2016 school year, Decorah Middle School will increase the percentage of proficient8th grade students scoring in the advanced range of the science subtest of the Iowa Assessments.

2014-2015: The Decorah Community Schools will increase the percentage of students in first and second grades who are reading at grade level based on the Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessment.

2015-2016: Carrie Lee Elementary will increase the percentage of 3rd grade students who are reading at grade level from the percentage that were reading at grade level in 2nd grade using their spring Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessment.

Progress on the 14-15 Goal:

The Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment provides a reading level from A to Z.

82.04% of the first and second graders in the 2014-2015 school year were reading at grade level or above during the spring testing session.During the 2013-2014 school year, only 78.33% were reading at grade level using the same assessment during the spring testing session. This is an increase of 3.71%. We met this goal.
