Commodore’s Report:
Ryan Shofield welcomed all to the Annual Dinner Meeting and told the membership that Commodore Richard Leijonflycht was sorry that he couldn’t attend tonight’s meeting, but that he was out of the country attending a memorial service for a family member. In addition, Ryan said that our Vice Commodore, Steve Fishman came down ill today and couldn’t attend the meeting as well. Ryan talked about the progress the club made this past year under the great leadership of the board and thanked the many people who contributed their time and effort to making the club better. Gordon Christianer gave additional thanks and recognition for the great job that Chris Hernandez and Pat Sayer-Handley did in decorating the banquet room for this event. They truly transformed the place. Bryant Bowington was applauded for the great job he did in organizing this whole event and making it a huge success on very short notice.
Treasurer’s Report:
Rich Gloving reported that we had a very successful year financially. Our regattas made money and our reserves were growing enabling the club to pay for a new safety boat, site improvements, and lots of deferred maintenance. Rich also indicated that he was in discussions with the port engineer to get a reduction in our high energy rates.
Sailing Officer’s Report:
Dan Clark reported on a lot of positive trends for the club: our regattas are running much better and are paying for themselves; new members were much more active bringing new energy to our events; participation in our BBQ & Sail events was increasing; and the huge success of our Open House and how that is making us better known in the community. Dan spoke of our goals for next year including improved sailing lessons for the public, more on-the-water instruction for our members and the opening of Crew-U, a tutorial for those interested improving their crewing skills.
Reading of the Minutes:
Gordon Christianer read the minutes of the 11/27 Regular Meeting. The reading was interrupted twice by applause: first for Bryant Bowington’s work and his talent in making the “Bryant’s Famous Turkey Chili” and then moments later for Les Juhasz’s substantial contribution to the club through the year.
New Business:
Commodore’s Award: Ryan Shofield read a statement from Commodore Richard Leijonflycht presenting his Commodore’s Award an individual for outstanding achievement for 2007. To hardy applause, the recipient of this year’s award went to Dan Clark.
Most Improved Sailor: Dan Clark presented this year’s award for most improved sailor to Mike Rohde of the Laser Fleet.
Frog Awards: There were eight awards of “The Lake Washington Puddle No. 1 of the Order of the Bull Frogs”. To qualify for this award, sailors had to either capsize or fall into Lake Washington involuntary and without premeditation. The recipients were: Bryant and Spencer Bowington, Rich Glovin, Dan Clark, Roy Pitts, Pennie Chwalowski, Ryan Shofield and Carole Vailancourt.
Election of Officers for 2008: Gordon Christianer read off a list of declared candidates for club officers and the board of directors. He then asked if there were any other nominations or interested candidates from the floor. There were none. After brief comments, the ballots were handed out, then collected and tallied. The results from 23 ballots were unanimous: Commodore, Richard Leijonflycht; Vice Commodore, Steve Fishman; Port Captain, Ken Collier; Secretary, Gordon Christianer; Treasurer, Rich Glovin; Sailing Officer, Roy Pitts; and Communications Officer, Ken Crawford.
The meeting was adjourned and 20:25 hours.
