Annual Juvenile Piping Competition

Saturday 9th September 2017

The College of Piping, Otago St., Glasgow G12 8JH

Commencing 9.30am with Chanter, then B Grade events, after which the A Grade will commence

  • The competition is open to all members of the Scottish Pipers’ Association.
  • Membership is £5 for Juveniles[under 16]; £7.50 per annum for 16 and over or £50.00 for life membership.
  • Entry is confined to amateur juveniles who have never played in Open Professional Events
  • Competitors confined to either Chanter, B Grade, or A Grade events
  • Entries will close on Monday 4th September

Chanter Contest for beginners who have never played in a bagpipe contest and under 14 yrs old

  1. 2 - Part Slow Air 2. 2-part March [2/4 or 6/8]

B Grade Events are for beginners and competitors who have not won prizes. If you have questions about eligibility for this grade please contact us.

All B Grade prizewinners move to A Grade next year

Own choice of tunes in B Grade Events

  • Piobaireachd: Duncan MacMurchy Trophy and 4 Prizes
  • March:Tom Philiban Shield and 4 Prizes
  • Starthspey & Reel:P/M Hamish MacColl Trophy and 4 Prizes
  • B Grade Overall: Archie MacPhail Trophy
  • Most Promising Piper:Jock Speirs Cup

A Grade Eventsare for previous B Grade prize winners and advanced players who have already won prizes in other contests. New competitors can choose to play in A Grade if they wish but A Grade competitors cannot revert to B Grade in future years. Competitors cannot enter a mix of A and B Grade events.

A Grade: Two of each type of tune to be offered – one of each to be played once over

  • Piobaireachd: Farquhar MacRae Trophy and 4 Prizes
  • March:Cameron Cup and 4 Prizes
  • Strathspey & Reel:Chisholm Cup and 4 Prizes
  • Jig:Smith Trophy and 4 Prizes
  • A Grade Overall:David Green Shield
  • A Grade Overall [under 15]
