MDI Gurgaon’sConvocation Ceremony 2015: Exhorting students to contribute to society

Chief Guest Hon’ble Union Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting, ShriArunJaitleyapprises students of the role they can play in contributing to the growth trajectory of India Inc.

MDI Gurgaon, one of the top Business schools in India, bid adieu to the graduating students of this year and exhorted them to carry the values and goals integrated in their learning at the premier institute in to their professional lives ahead. Convocation 2015 was held on 21st March 2015 at MDI campus, Gurgaon. Chief Guest, ShriArunJaitley, Hon’ble Union Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting, provided an insightful understanding of the current scenario in banking, finance and management in India and the new business challenges in the market today.

After acknowledging students for their achievements in different programmes with Gold medals, Chief Guest Shri Arun Jaitleywent on to inspire students as they embarked on their professional journeys. He said, “MDI discovered Gurgaon before rest of the people discovered it.In the changed environment of India, we have to struggle to create institution of excellence. The level of competition has gone up and you have to beat the next best.” Congratulating the students for their placements, Shri Arun Jaitley added “The whole world will be your market place and you have to decide the pace for you to embark your career.”

Theconvocation conferred diplomas on the students of the seven programmes ofMDI: PGPM, PGP-HRM, PGP-IM, PGPM-PT, NMP/EM, PGP-PPM and the doctoral programmes (FPM/EFPM).Extending a warm welcome to Shri.Jaitley was Shri Malay Mukherjee, Chairman, MDIsubstantiated MDI Gurgaon’s growth in numbers, diversity and quality of programs in recent years and its propensity to network globally with top universities. Offering his heartiest congratulations to parents and members of the families of all the graduating students; ShriMukherjeecomplimented the students on embellishing their alma-mater proud with their hard work and achievements

Bestowing students with confidence and courage for entering a new professional life, he stressed on the importance of morality and ethics that play a key role in implementing ones knowledge and skills. He elaborated saying, “The bright young minds - the would-be tomorrow’s business leaders - would be an asset for the nation. I urge the graduating students to get inspired by the contributions of their illustrious predecessors, who have helped in strong nation building and I also advise them to step out with commitment and conviction, and consistency in thoughts and actions to uplift the society and help in the upliftment of the significantly less privileged.”

Shri C P Shrimali, Director MDIin his review of the institute’s activities, enunciated on how MDI has developed cutting edge management capabilities through value based education. As one of the most globalised business schools, it has forged collaborations with 61 world-wide institutions of excellence, and is leading in Continuing Education programmes and Research. He held forth on the resounding success of placements for this year stating, “I am glad to report that, this year also we had 100% placement and our students received offers for their dream jobs. All the students out of a batch of 336 have been placed with reputed companies with highest salary touching Rs.25.18 lakhs per annum and an average salary of Rs.16.86 lakhs per annum for our PGDM programmes which in comparison to last year is 15 per cent higher. About 145 companies came for recruitment, out of which 53 companies were first time recruiters.”

This year MDI Gurgaon conferred Diplomas on 578 students and participants from these programmes including 7 Fellow scholars.

With excellent placements for the batch of 2013-2015, MDI Gurgaon witnessed a considerable rise in the number of first-time recruiters visiting the campus. The average compensation has also scaled up by 15% as compared to last year. This year, a total of 71 students took the pre-placement offers and a meagre 8 students decided to plunge into entrepreneurship. The batch comprised 239 students in the flagship PGPM course, 60 in the PGP-HRM course and 37 in the PGP-IM course. 71 students accepted the Pre-Placement Offers this year while 8 students opted out of the placement process and decided to take the entrepreneurial path.Niche profiles in Finance, Sales and Marketing, Consulting and Operations were offered alongwith big names in the FMCG sector recruiting for their HR profiles like Nestlé and Snapdealwhich made the highest number of offers, recruiting 26 students for various roles.

Theconvocationwas attended by the who’s who of the corporate world, thought leaders from the government, media and industry experts, not to forget the parents and family members of the graduating students who took pride in watching their children mark an academic milestone under the prestigious mentoring of their alma-mater MDI Gurgaon.
