Announcement of the 2014 postdoctoral scholarships at the Faculty of Medicine and half-time scholarships in neurological research for third-cycle programmes

The Board of the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy announces SEK 8,244,000 from various funds controlled by the Board of the Disciplinary Domain. The funds are primarily advertised as postdoctoral scholarships in the following fields of research:

Cancer Research
SEK 1,860,000 from the G G Claéson Foundation, the L Eriksson Foundation, the A Karlsson Foundation, the S B Engström Foundation, the Sonja Engström Foundation and the H G Ankarstrand Foundation, of which at least one is for clinical research.

Cardiovascular Diseases
SEK 1,596,000 from the RI Lindman Foundation, the Sonja Engström Foundation, the Ländell Foundation and the A Karlsson Foundation.

Neurological Research
SEK 1,596,000 from the Ländell Foundation, the H Larsson Foundation, the H G Ankarstrand Foundation and the B B Hedström Foundation, of which one is for research concerning neurological diseases, preferably Friedreich’s ataxia, one is for disabling neurological diseases, primarily polyneuropathy, and one is for 1) child neurological research or alternatively 2) to enable medical doctors in Uppsala to conduct special studies in child neurology or 3) to invite eminent researchers in this subject to Uppsala.

Clinical Research
SEK 1,596,000 from the L R Åkerham Foundation, the A Karlsson Foundation and the L Eriksson Foundation, of which at least one is for clinical research in asthma and allergic illnesses.

Medical Research
SEK 1,860,000 from the H G Ankarstrand Foundation, the G M Lundberg Foundation, the E Wessler Foundation, the M Sjöström Foundation and the A Karlsson Foundation, of which at least one is, primarily, for the prevention of diseases, or such education which is intended to specialise the medical doctor’s work in preventive and health promoting measures, and at least one is, preferably, for medical biochemical research.

Doctoral students admitted to third-cycle programmes in neurological research in the aforementioned subjects can apply for half-time scholarships.
The postdoctoral scholarships amount to SEK 22,000 (full-time) and SEK 15,000 (half-time) per month over one year.

The application is intended for researchers in the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University. Postdoctoral students currently residing abroad who wish to conduct research at Uppsala University’s Faculty of Medicine may also apply. If the application is for postdoctoral residency abroad, support for accompanying family members may be disbursed according to EMBO standards,
The application is for a one-year postdoctoral scholarship. Researchers holding posts with conditional tenure may not apply. Under certain conditions, it is possible to receive an awarded scholarship over two years. The scholarships can be combined with employment at a maximum of 20 per cent of full-time for the period of the scholarship.
Professionals in different healthcare professions who are employed by the Uppsala County Council may apply for a postdoctoral scholarship in combination with employment of at most 50 per cent of full-time. The scholarships may be extended for one additional year upon re-application.
The funds are made available on the condition that the applicant continues to be active at Uppsala University.

Those eligible to apply are researchers who have obtained a doctoral degree no more than five years before the expiration of the application period. Leaves of absence due to sickness, military services, medical internships, commissions of trust for union organisations and student organisations, parental leave or other similar circumstances are not counted.

The application must be submitted electronically and the following are to be attached as one pdf: CV, complete list of publications, a short description of the research project (at most two A4 pages), a list of personal external research funds, and a letter from the Head of the Department verifying current research activities. For new postdoctoral students, a letter from the Head of the Department certifying that the department can receive the applicant is required.

The period of application runs from June, 2 to June, 27 at 24:00. After that point it will not be possible to register, make changes or print the application form. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
