Job Title:Programme Manager-Harmful Traditional Practices (HTP) / Reports to:Peacebuilding Team Leader / Location: Kathmandu with visits to Bajhang& other clusters as necessaryObjective of the Job:
To take responsibility for the overall management of all aspects of the project cycle for the Harmful Traditional Practices project in accordance with donor contracts and UMN policies, and give technical support as needed.
Areas of Responsibility / Decision Making / Qualification & Experience
Project Management
- Familiarise with donor contract and ensure compliance, including ensuring that key project stakeholders (UMN cluster staff and partners) are also made familiar with the project and contractual requirements;
- Develop the capacity of any UMN project related staff as required;
- Ensure that the project is implemented according to the approved project proposal , implementing approved activities, and producing stated results;
- In consultation with MEL team, ensure excellent monitoring, evaluation and learning systems are in place, and are implemented well;
- In coordination with staff responsible for organizational development, ensure that UMN’s project partners are well supported and develop their capacity as needed;
- Ensure that the budget ,as approved by the donor and UMN Leadership Team, is strictly followed and that permissions for variance are obtained before implementation;
- Coordinate the drafting of all donor reports, annual work plans and budgets, and provide information on the project to the Team Leader, Communications Team ,or any others who legitimately request it;
- Ensure that the UMN all UMN policies, including those for cross cutting issues, are followed at all times;
- Network and build relationships with relevant experts, civil society, government, academia, partners and community in order to ensure excellence in programme implementation, development, and learning;
- Coordinate with other UMN Technical Teams to ensure synergy;
- Map the needs of gender and harmful traditional practices in UMN working areas;
- Train partners and UMN staff members as required;
- Facilitate partners on gender empowerment, men engagement, psychosocial needs and harmful traditional practices;
- Facilitate partners to design, implement, monitor progress, evaluateHTP project and report progress as per objectives, activities and indicators
- Provide advice, coach, mentor and support peace building officers on gender and HTPissues; document and share on international and national experiences;
- Develop proposals and seek funding for HTP and other programmes in UMN;
- Develop advocacy strategies related to HTP ensuring impact at local and national level;
- Actively continue to build own work related professional knowledge andskills,
- Engage in national networks and forums related to gender and HTP;
- Ensure that the good practices and learnings in UMN are well captured, documented and shared between partners, UMN and also with others at a wider level,
- Contribute to make strategic decisions on gender and HTP concerns within UMN & its partners,
- Contribute to decision making on gender/HTP budgets,
- Contribute to strategic planning and decisions on peace building work within UMN.
- MA studies on gender or equivalent;
- Several years of work experience in grassroots development;
- Knowledge of Nepal’s gender situation, masculinity and militarisation of social, economic and political issues;
- Good understanding of how to work with stereotyped people; ,
- Work in a multi-cultural setting,
- Project management experience is desirable
- Familiar with Open Office or Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
