Position Description

Position Title:Life Enrichment Aide

Reports To:Director of Life Enrichment

Effective Date:December 20, 2016

Position Description: The Life Enrichment Aide assists the Social and Director of Life Enrichmentto provide group and individual activities forthe residents. Duties will involve personal contact with a varying resident population and a varied workschedule that may include some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Tasks also will involve record-keeping,monitoring properuse of supplies and equipment, and maintenance of storage areas.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) with experience with special populations desired. Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Class C Georgia Driver’s License, proof of vehicle insurance, and meet company policy regarding MVR requirements. Must meet state requirements regarding a Georgia, National, and FBI criminal history record check, which requires fingerprinting. Must undergo and pass a drug screening, and screeningfor Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B. Must have current CPR/First Aid certification in accordance with stateregulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with activities as directed by the Director of Life Enrichment, and in accordance with each resident's planof care.

Group

  • Be sure area to be used for activity is available and safe
  • Set up activity area, as needed, for the type of activity planned
  • Remind nursing staff and residents who desire to participate of activities scheduled
  • Assist with transport of residents to the activity area
  • Follow the instructions for the activity, as directed
  • Observe individual resident participation and responses during the activity
  • Assist residents back to living areas at the conclusion of the activity
  • Notify nursing of resident behaviors, which may indicate medical issues
  • Complete record-keeping and/or other documentation tasks

Individual

  • Interact appropriately and effectively in one to one activities, according to the resident'sstrengths and limitations
  • Be aware of individual cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial impairments
  • Keep records of sensory stimulation, or other type of activity, and record resident's response

Chaperone scheduled activities away from the facility grounds.

Help maintain a pleasant and cheerful nursing home environment.

  • Help with putting up, taking down, and storing seasonal decorations
  • Help care for plants
  • Assist residents to display calendars, pictures, cards, or other mementos in their rooms

Deliver and read mail as needed.

Assist with other tasks as directed by the Director of Life Enrichment.

  • Address, stamp, stuff, and mail monthly calendars
  • File photos regularly
  • Keep activity closets organized

Participate in and promote staff participation in facility-wide special activities, such as dress-updays and special observances.

Attend mandatory facility in-services.

Attend Activity Department in-services or workshops as directed by the Director of Life Enrichment.

Continue the activity program in the absence of the Director of Life Enrichment.

Monitor Villager behavior and assists staff, as needed, to control inappropriate behavior; documents according to policy.

Assists with upkeep of equipment, supplies, and other operating materials.

Performs other duties that may be necessary in the best interest of Annandale at Suwanee, Inc. to meet the personal service and care needs of the facility residents.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English, and the ability to count, add, and subtract.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands; use fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or crawl. Employee is required to lift up to 25 pounds and/or move up to 75 pounds (with assistance). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to transport (drive) and assist Villagers in and out of vehicles. Employee is required to perform CPR/First Aid.
