GETTING TO ANN ARBOR

 Clearing Customs and Immigration

  • Customs and Immigration will ask you questions regarding your purpose of visit, your US address, your major, etc. Keep your answers simple and direct.
  • You will be issued anI-94 (a small white card) while clearing customs. Keep it well! You need it for leaving the USA.

 Transportation from Airport (DTW) to Ann Arbor

  • Taxi: Book in advance in Singapore or flag on the spot at the airport.
  • Have your dorm/hotel address ready.

MOVING INTO ANN ARBOR

 Before the move-in date

  • You can either check yourself into a hotel or try and get a temporary room at Betsy Barbor (refer to map).

 Moving into your dorm/apartment

  • Have your housing contract and passport ready at your dorm’s front desk.
  • Fill out your dorm room’s inventory sheet
  • You can approach the Move-in Makers (student volunteers) for any help or information

 Purchase immediate necessities

 Making your Mcard

  • Your Mcard combines many features including identification, library borrowing privileges, building access, meal plans and Entrée Plus, and ATM/debit card access (for TCF bank) all on one card.
  • There are 2 Mcard offices that you can go to have your Mcard made (refer to map).

 Photocopying your Documents

  • You will need to photocopy certain important documents when you arrive, such as your immigration documents that are sealed before you arrive in the USA. Refer to the map under ‘Photocopying Service’ for a detailed list of facilities available.

 Attend Orientation!

  • Orientation begins on Friday, August 24, 2007 at 8.00am in the Michigan League.
  • Orientation covers important issues:
  1. Mandatory check-in with the university
  2. Health insurance
  3. Registration for classes

 Placement Exams

  • These are required for students who wish to place out of Math, Chemistry and Language courses. The exam schedule can be found on:

 Financial Matters

  • Bring about USD1000 to cover immediate expenses. Bank drafts will take time to process, so you will need cash on hand.
  • Bring some cashfor cab, food, bank account setup. The 2 major banks on campus are TCFand Credit Union. (Refer to the map).
  • 3 forms of identifications are required (Mcard, passport, VISA) and have both your permanent and current address on hand.

 Signing up for a Mobile phone plan

  • You can sign up for a mobile phone plan at:

IN ANN ARBOR

 Getting Around

  • To get between North and Central campus, take the Michigan blue bus. Blue bus routes can be found at: Bus_Routes/index_fw.html
  • To travel out of the campus area, you can travel for free on AATA buses (just show your Mcard). To obtain bus routes, a free bus guide can be obtained at the Michigan Union or online at:
