Animal Welfare Society Hosts 4thAnnual Art Auction

WEST KENNEBUNK, Maine – May 22 – The Animal Welfare Society (AWS) today announced its fourth annual art auction to be held Sunday, June 2nd at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport.

“We are beyond excited at the outpouring of generosity for this event,” said Gail Arnold, former board president and on of the auction committee’s chairs. “The artists of our community have been so kind.” More than 80 artists have committed to donating a piece to this year’s event, with 100% of auction sales going directly to the animals.

This year’s event will include a silent auction and live auction. “There is something for everyone at every price level,” said Kerrie Leclair, director of development at the shelter. “There is every medium represented and every subject matter. We have some incredible pieces this year.”

A silent auction and an artist reception will begin at 3pm, with many artists on hand to discuss their work. Live music will be provided by Jara Goodrich of the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Bidding on the live auction pieces will begin at 5pm with Kent Driscoll serving as auctioneer. Driscoll, an auctioneer with J.J. Keating Auctions, is donating his time. The event emcee is Suzanne Nance of MPBN.

The event has been generously underwritten by Biddeford Savings with support from Atlantic Holdings, Kathy & David Hardwick, Kathy & Chris Hughes and Kennebunk Beach Realty. “Our sponsors have allowed us to ensure that event expenses are covered,” said Kerrie Leclair, director of development at the shelter. “Art buyers can be assured that their purchase directly goes to animal care.”

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and include two glasses of wine and complimentary heavy hors d’ouevres. Tickets are available in advance by calling 207-985-3244 x123.
