Anglian Water and its contractor, Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions Ltd, will soon start work to replace the water main alongSalts Road and part of School Road in West Walton. This work is essential to maintaining a quality service and to address frequent burst issues in the area.

Work is programmed to commence on the 20thOctober 2014, and will last for approximately 21 weeks, although this could be subject to change in which case you will be informed. There may be activity before this date, as we set up the site compound, deliver materials, etc ahead of the works. SaltsRoadwill require a road closure; access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

The work we will be carrying out involves replacing the water main with a new water main constructed of HPPe (High-pressure Polyethylene). This new pipe will be installed by a technique called pipe-bursting, this involves the excavation of pits at approximately 100 metre intervals, then ‘bursting’ the replacement pipe through the existing main (confirmation of this techniques suitability will be made following trial holes); by using this method we hope to use less reinstatement material and reduce time and therefore disruption on site. Once the new main has been installed it will undergo numerous water quality tests and the residents will be put on a boil notice for 24hrs. Unfortunately this work will necessitate the water supply being interrupted at times.

All affected residents will receive a letter regarding these works ahead of the project commencement. Working hours will be 0800-1700hrs Monday to Friday.

Due to the nature of the work disruption and disturbance will be inevitable, however, every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience. There will be a Balfour Beatty site manager based on site but if you find yourself unable to obtain assistance locally, are aware of any customer that may need special consideration, or have any special medical requirements that will be affected by interruptions to your water supply ie Renal Dialysis patients, please contact me on 01603 247012 or our 24-hour Contact Centre on 08457 145 145.

If you require any further information regarding the project, please do not hesitate to contact me at our Norwich office on 01603 247012.

Yours sincerely

Dominic Peel
