We are sorry to announce that Dr Andrew Burnett has decided to retire from general practice at the end of March this year.

Andrew has been a partner at Sonning Common Health Centre for over 30 years and has been senior partner for over half that time. His great contribution to the community and patient care will be sorely missed. Various events will be arranged to celebrate his time with the village and the practice - details of these will be available on our website and in the practice.

We have delayed announcing this whilst we made arrangements to replace Dr Burnett’s clinical time and are pleased to announce that we will be increasing the number of doctors working at the Health Centre.

We have appointed two doctors well known to the practice who will start from 1st April, and also Dr Samuel Muncey, one of our current GP registrars, who will start working with us in August this year after finishing his training time.

Our two new doctors are Dr Nicholas Smith who was with us as a registrar in 2012-13 and Dr Claire Webster who has been a long term locum with us. We are very fortunate to have had some excellent candidates apply and are excited about the opportunities ahead. There is a need for more doctors as our list size is increasing due to the popularity of the practice and plans for new housing in our community.

We will be advising patients shortly who their new registered doctor will be and hope that everyone will understand the need to balance each doctor’s patient numbers with their availability. We always encourage patients, where possible, to see their usual doctor for continuity of care but understand that certain conditions are best seen by certain doctors and that emergency appointment needs arise that require any doctor’s attention.

Although there is lots of change happening we are excited about the opportunities this offers and hope our patients will welcome the new doctors. We will continue to provide the responsive person-centred care that has helped to make our practice the centre of the community for many years and which was recognised by the Care Quality Commission in its recent Outstanding rating.

We are sure everyone will be sad to lose Dr Burnett and wish him well in his future plans.

We also take this opportunity to announce that Mike Hall will be leaving in February and will be replaced by our new Practice Manager Andrea Tsoi who comes with a great range of experience. We wish Mike well.
