President: Bud Graham interim for 3 months then Board will revisit

Vice President: To be determined at the January meeting

Secretary: To be determined at the January meeting

Treasurer: To be determined at the January meeting

Barge Lawsuit Committee: Bryan Miles Area-A, Carolyn Jackson Area-B, Bud Graham Area-C

Communications Chair: Sherryl Yaciansky

Community Services Chair: Kim Wall

Governance Committee Chair: Bud Graham

Transportation Committee Chair: Bryan Miles

2. BARGE LAWSUIT – LETTERS RE ESSENTIAL BARGE SERVICES. ASIC continues to receive letters from Savary property owners in answer to our call for opinions on what constitutes an “essential” barge service during the peak months of summer. We are still hoping to get many more letters from you, our members. Your letters may be helpful during the January 21 mediation of the civil case between the PRRD, the Province of BC, and the 6 Plaintiffs who live close to the barge site. The mediation may initiate change to the previous draft Management Plan of the License of Occupation for the site.

Please send your letters before January 15, to ASIC President Bud Graham at or write to Bud Graham, ASIC, PO Box 222, Lund BC, V0N 2G0.

3. COMMUNITY HALL CLOSING. ASIC has written to our PRRD representative Patrick Brabazon to seek an interim solution to our community being without a community hall. We have explained that activities such as weddings, meetings, yoga, line dancing and other community events are stifled as a result of the September 17 directive from the PRRD that the hall can only be used for Fire Department related activity. Our letter can be viewed on ASIC’s website at under Recent Correspondence. We will have more to report when the building inspector’s report on the state of the fire hall is released, presumably in mid December.

We will also request the continuation of the telephone landline, as the fire hall is considered the Emergency Command Post in the event of an island emergency, and cell networks often become overloaded during emergency situations.

4. LACK OF AVAILABLE PARKING. If you are concerned with uninsured and/or unlicenced vehicles taking up parking spaces in the wharf area, please contact the Powell River RCMP. Without a file of complaints, the RCMP cannot act on this problem. The RCMP non-emergency number in Powell River is 604-485-6255.

In addition to the uninsured and unlicenced vehicles, many parking spots along Malaspina and Ashworth are occupied for days, weeks, and even months by inconsiderate property owners’ vehicles. Repeat offenders are noted, and some have been reminded. Still, many continue to leave vehicles at the wharf, rather than parking up the hill at the Rogers Hall, or having a friend return the vehicle to its property.

Another problem is that on some days there are simply not enough spots to accommodate the number of vehicles. As a result, people park where they can, sometimes partially into the road.

If you are affected by the congestion of vehicles in the wharf area, we urge you to write to Clint Monson, Area Manager at the Ministry of Transportation and to Regional Director Patrick Brabazon with a cc. to .

5. ASIC MEMBERSHIP. ASIC currently has 761 members. All Savary property owners, and their spouses/partners, are eligible to become members. Spouses do not have to be on title. Members vote at the AGM and in the biannual election of Directors, and receive the Board's monthly email Updates keeping them apprised of Savary issues.

Membership is free, but you do have to sign up. The only obligation is for members to keep ASIC informed regarding their contact information and any changes to that information. To become a member, please email Sharon Feduniak at .

Thank you for reading this message.
