Ancient Greece Timeline Assignment
Honor Code Level 2
Purpose:
The ancient history of Greece spans from roughly 2900 BCE, when early Aegean cultures emerged, through 641 CE when the Slavs besieged the region (although this timeline will stop when the Romans overtook Greece around 146 BCE). For the purposes of WHISL class, we focus on the essential questions, “What is justice?” and “What is the best relationship between individuals and government?” through the lens of Athens and Sparta. However, in order to get a grasp on the enormity of Greek history and culture, we will construct a brief overview of this 3700+ year history!
Your tasks:
- You are responsible for visualizing and summarizing your assigned part of the Ancient Greece Timeline.
- Using the information provided by Ms. Erickson and the additional resources linked to the Ancient Greece Resources tab at sshserickson.pbworks.com please complete the following.
- Read your section of the timeline asking yourself the basic questions: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? (as relevant)
- Summarize the event/person/era/concept in 2-3 sentences.
- Explain the significance you believe your event/person/era/concept to have had at the time (or in modern time) in 2-3 sentences.
- Select a picture that you can embed into your assignment (yes, the picture must correspond with your topic.).
- Create a one-page piece, formatted as follows (see example on back side):
- Include a title in a larger font.
- Picture below the title.
- Summary sentences (must be typed).
- Significance sentences (must be typed).
- Your name in bottom right corner.
- Keep the paper vertical (length-wise).
- Any websites or other resources referenced should be cited at the bottom, on the back or on an additional piece of paper.
These will be briefly shared with the class TOMORROW!
Your topic (i.e. person/event/era/concept)- the title should be in big enough font to see from a distance because these will be hung in the room.
Summary:This section should include enough information to summarize the person/event/era/concept and include any important dates, locations, etc. It ought to answer the basic questions Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Keep it simple and please remember that this is a SUMMARY!
Significance: Why is this event/person/era/concept important? Why is it remembered today? How did it influence the time in which it took place? What might have changed because of this topic?
Citations: Be sure to cite the sources that you utilized in making this poster. Please use MLA format.
