According to Genealogical Dictionary of First Settlers by James Savage, Eleazer was the first male born in New Haven. In 1661 he was schoolmaster at Wethersfield, and continued in that employment at intervals until 1689. Was freeman in 1667, and in 1696 succeeded Col. John Allyn as Secretary of the Colony, and continued in that position until his death.
