MHPCA's Hospice Day at the Capitol will educate our elected officials about hospice and related issues of importance in the care of terminally ill patients.

Who are your state legislators? To identify your State Representative and Senator, go the then Advocacy page.

Legislative Visits – MHPCA is asking members and volunteers to schedule appointments with legislators to discuss general hospice and palliative care issues. As the General Assembly will be in session, legislators may not be available for appointments. You are encouraged to ask legislative staff if yourlegislator is available to leave House or Senate floor for a brief visit. Do not hesitate to share information with legislative staff as they play a very important role in distributing information to the legislators. MHPCA is developing a hospice fact sheet, identifying hospice specific issues and current bills that may impact delivery of hospice care. Be sure to pick up this handout and any packet materials available for your delegation on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the MHPCA Registration Desk, which will be located in the State Capitol's Third Floor Rotunda.

Security at the Capitol is currently at low level and all entrances are open to visitors with no check-in. If security levels should increase, all visitors will be required to show photo identification and follow directions to south entrance for check-in.

Parking - There is minimal on-street parking around the Capitol. Additional parking can be found at the parking garage east of the Capitol on the corner of East Capitol Avenue and Madison Street. Additional parking is available at the Capitol Parking Lot with shuttle buses every 15 minutes to the Capitol. A map follows on the page two for your consideration. MHPCA will be running a shuttle to and from the Capitol Plaza and the Capitol in the am and then back again for lunch.

Bus Directions - Buses will need to unload on the north or river side of the Capitol. Capitol Police have the unloading area marked. The current security has been reduced so the building can be entered on both the east entrance at the parking garage entrance and at the south, main entrance. There is an elevator just inside the garage entrance that will take visitors to the first floor.

Buses cannot park in the state parking lots, so they will need to go on around the Capitol to Broadway Street to McCarty Street. Turn right on McCarty, go under the highway, and turn left on Industrial Drive. On the left, there is a Bus Parking Area (Old National Guard Building). For the bus driver, there is a bus shuttle pickup every 15 minutes and running to the Capitol.
