Course Outline: Upholstery Fabric Technician (UFT)

The Upholstery Fabric Technician Course extensively covers all aspects involved in upholstery cleaning from its construction throughthe finest details of fabric cleaning and restoration. Emphasis is stressed on higher end fabrics and problem solving. Extensive time is spent on hands-on cleaning and procedures. Leather cleaning is not part of this course, although the basics of leather care are discussed. Education for leather care is offered through a separate IICRC course called Leather Cleaning Technician (LCT), which is offered by some IICRC Approved Schools.

Fabric Construction & Styles Finishes & Topical Treatments

Soils & Cleaning Theory Chemistry of Cleaning

Cleaning Systems & Tools Spotting & Stain Removal

Safety Issues Recommended Crew Procedures

In addition,, all students attending are encouraged to bring in upholstery to be cleaned to the class location on the second day. We will be cleaning them together as part of the course hands-on cleaning segment on the second day of the course.

Textbooks are included, as well as a supplemental handout booklet. Students are provided with technical support after the course at no charge.

This, as in all course approved by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning Restoration and Certification (IICRC), is presented in a generic format.There is no selling of products. This two day course has a minimum of 14 hours instruction, followed by an optional IICRC Exam. The optional IICRC exam is $50. per student.. All course curriculums follow the IICRC S300 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Upholstery Cleaning. The IICRC Exam will be administered following the completion of class on the second day.

About the instructor: Mark W Exner is a 39 year veteran of the cleaning industry, starting out at age 19. He currently owns a cleaning service, and his own IICRC Approved School, The National Textile Institute. Mark instructs for many IICRC Approved Schools, including Chemspec, Prochem, Servpro Industries, The Academy of Textiles and Flooring, and others. Mark also offers private certification classes and individual; tutoring. He is a standards writer for the recently upgraded IICRC S100 Carpet cleaning Standards, Chairman, Chapter 7, Equipment & Tools. Other subjects Mark instructs are Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT), and Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician.(CCMT)
