Avon Seedlings Program Description

The Avon Seedlings Preschool Program is an all-day experience designed for children that are three to five years old. To be eligible the child must be three(3)years old by March 1, 2018 and he/she must be toilet trained. The program will be housed at both White Oak Elementary and Maple Elementary and be in session 185 days, mirroring the ACSC teacher contract calendar. The program blends time with highly engaging academics, social play, guided discovery and opportunities to interact as peer friends for the children in developmental preschool. The program is available to children or grandchildren of ACSC employees as well as preschool aged children living in the Avon Community School Corporation; however, the space is limited to the first fifty-one (51) registrants (34 Kindergarten Bound students, age 5 by August 1, 2019). The registration items (see list of items on the registration form) are to be submitted to White Oak Elementary.

Program Costs

Included in the cost of the program is a $150nonrefundablefee due at the time of registration. $125 applies to the cost of the program and $25 is the annual consumable fee. There is no credit given for days not used during the school year. The payment schedule is over a ten-month period from August to May. Two equal payments will be due on the 1st and 15th of each month. The program cost is represented in the chart below:

Program Hours of Operation

The hours of operation will be 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.daily. The program hours are designed around the range of school start/ending times.

Schedule

During the school day,students will rotate through highly engaging academics, social play, guided discovery and peer friend interactions. In the middle of the day,children will have lunch, large motor skill development and playtime, as well as a nap and/or quiet time.Students will receive a snack during both the morning and afternoon components of the program. Lunch may be purchased from the school cafeteria or students may bring a sack lunch from home.

Academic Description

The academic component of the day will include programming based upon the Foundations to the Indiana Academic Standards for Young Children from Birth to Age 5 as posted on the Indiana Department of Education website.

Guided Discovery Description

During this part of the day, children will participate in enrichment activities, as well as, crafts and games to develop skills of self-management, confidence, and socialization, which all connect to the academic portion of a child’s day.

Peer Friends Description

The children in the Seedlings program will interact with children that attend the developmental preschool classrooms housed at White Oak Elementary and Maple Elementary. The Director, Principal, theSeedlings and Developmental Preschool teachers will work together to develop purposeful interactions among the students throughout the school day. The schedule for the peer friends’ interactions is the discretion of those listed above.

Before and After School Care

If additional time is desired beyond the Avon Seedlings Preschool Program hours of operation, parents may enroll their child in the YMCA Before and After School Care Program, which is currently housed at Maple Elementary. The YMCA hours of operation before school begin at 6:30 AM and the evening hours conclude at 6:00 PM. Parents are responsible for making arrangements and for any additional costs for this extended care program. NOTE: A student must be at least four years old before they can be enrolled in this program. If your child is under the age of four, then parents will not be able to utilize the YMCA Before and After School Care Program.

Early Entrance

If Seedlings spots are still available after initial registration, then early entrance students will be considered. A child is considered early entrance if they did not turn three years old by March 1, 2018. If your child is to be considered for early entrance,parents will need to register their child and pay the $150.00 registration fee. The child would then need to attend an early entrance assessment session, date to be determined. Should the child not qualify for the program as a result of the assessments, ACSC will refund $100 of the $150 registration fee.
