In order to partially defray the cost of travel to scientific meetings, the AMSGS will offer travel awards of up to $300.00 per academic year (Fall/Spring/Summer semester) to qualified graduate students. To qualify for an AMSGS travel award, graduate students must meet the following criteria:

(1)The student must be an active member of the AMSGS and must be a graduate student at the time of travel. There are no restrictions on position held in the organization at the time of application. Please indicate service and participation in AMSGS-sponsored events on the application.

(2)The student must present his/her own research at the meeting. A copy of the abstract should be attached to the application to verify that the student is indeed the presenting author.

(3)Awardees will be required to present a brief meeting summary at the monthly AMSGS luncheon following their travel to the awarded conference/meeting.

Preference will be given to students that have been admitted to Ph.D. candidacy. In addition, consideration will be given to students without outside support.

Awards will be made after a vote by the AMSGS Executive Board members. Each member will rank what they consider to be the top applications based on the qualifications stated above and an average rank for each application will be obtained. Only one application will be accepted each semester, up to a maximum of two per academic year. If you are planning to attend more than one meeting, please choose the meeting that you would most like to attend in order to maximize the chance of an award. Keep in mind that a student is eligible for only one travel stipend per academic year (Fall/Spring/Summer semester) from AMSGS. By applying for an AMSGS sponsored travel award, you agree to abide by the award decisions made by the Executive Board. The amount of the award and number of awards given may vary from year to year based on the monies available for travel in the AMSGS budget. At least one award will be given to a national meeting in each semester. If you are awarded travel money and do not attend the meeting for which it was awarded, the money must be returned to the AMSGS. Also, if you receive an AMSGS travel award, all receipts must be turned in within one month of the meeting (location TBA).
