POLICY ON AFTER-HOURS ACCESS FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

SCHOOL OF AEROSPACE, MECHANICAL AND

MECHATRONIC ENGINEERING, BUILDING J07

  • Normal hours of access to the building during semester time are from:

7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday

  • After hours access is normally restricted to the extension of working hours Monday to Friday only. Students may obtain after-hours access (until 9:50pm weekdays) to the Main Computer Laboratory (S345) and the Mechatronics Laboratory (325 – Link Bldg) by obtaining a swipe card from the University Security Office. Procedure to get this swipe card is outlined below. Please note that this is a privilege for Undergraduate students to assist them with their demands for longer access to the laboratories. It may be removed if students do not follow the safety rules.
  • No Undergraduate students should remain in the building after 9.50pm. This is to ensure that students catch the University Bus provided by Security Services to travel safely to Redfern Station.

STUDENTS WISHING TO OBTAIN AFTER HOURS ACCESS AFTER SIX PM (WEEKDAYS ONLY) PLEASE NOTE THESE STEPS:

  • Visit University Security office between the hours of 8:30-4:00 Monday-Friday. The office is located at the Services Building (G12) 2nd Floor on the Corner of Codrington and Abercrombie Streets Darlington Campus. Please make sure that you have a current (2006) Student Identification Card.
  • Request a security access swipe card for either the Computer Laboratory (S345 – Mechanical Engineering Building) and/or the Mechatronic Laboratory (325 – Link Building). As no student will be given access to the external doors of the building all students must be in the building before 6pm if they wish to gain access to the Labs.
  • You should clearly explain to the staff at the University Security office which Laboratory you require access to.
  • Please note that all passages through the swipe card system are recorded for security reasons and may be accessed by the Head of School only.
  • All students who are enrolled in 2006 have had their names submitted to Security Services for the purposes of authorizing swipe card access. If you were not enrolled by this date and require after hours access please email Yvonne Witting at .
  • The applicant will meet all costs for after-hours access. The cost for the security card is $11.00 (not refundable). There is also an additional deposit of $25.00 required (refundable at the end of the academic year). Hence an initial $36.00 (cash) would be required on the day the card is requested.

  • Entrance to the main computer laboratory (S345) between the hours of 6.00pm and 9.50pm by swipe card access only. Entrance to the Mechatronics Laboratory (325 – Link Bldg.) is also by swipe card access only. You are requested to leave the building no later than 9.50pm. For your personal safety it is recommended that you use the bus provided by Security Services if you are travelling to Redfern Station. The bus timetable is shown below.
