Summer has arrived and the Post Newsletter is back! We’re hoping to give it a new fresh look, with more information about the ‘goings on’ at the Post and in the community! Please keep the calendars handy so you will always be aware of the activities. We don’t always know what will be planned after the newsletter goes out, so stop in the Post and check out any new announcements. (They will beposted) Better yet attend the monthly meetings that happen on the 2nd Thursday at 7:00 pm of each month!! The General Meeting is for all members.Hope you enjoy the new format!

COMMANDER: Bob Carlson July, August, September 2017
Summer has finally arrived, it's been cool but it will warm up and we can all enjoy it. Welcome back to all the snowbirds.
First off, I would like to thank Linda Olson for taking over the Post newsletter. I apologize for there not being a newsletter for themonths of April, May and June. Hopefully now that Linda has taken over things will be like before. All members who would like to havea newsletter e-mailed to them please drop off your e-mail address at the Post, or mail it to the Post. Your email will NOTbe given out anyone. This is something we trying to help save money & time. Mailing of the newsletter cost thePost $251.37 and that’s something we just can't afford. Just a reminder the newsletter is posted American Legion Post 86. Paper copies of the newsletter including the next 3 month calendar will be available at the Post.
Coming events include the Dept. Convention held in Mahomet, MN on 13-15 July 2017. Myself, Jim Blaksley and Bob DeLoach willbe attending; if you have any concerns or input you would like brought up, please let one of us know.
Fourth of July parade being held in Glen MN, starting at 10:00 a.m. (1000 hrs.) our Color Guard will be leading the parade with a 5K walk-run starting at 7:30 a.m. (0730 hrs.).
RiverboatDaysare on August 5, 2017 at the Post! The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. (1100 hrs.), going from the grade school to the fair grounds. American Legion Post 86 Color Guard will be leading the parade!
DUES! DUES! DUES! July is the starting month for our 2018 dues, there will be no increase this year, they will remain at $40.00 whichis a bargain compared to a lot of other Posts. The "early-bird" membership dinner will be in October and your dues have to be paid to qualifyor you can pay your dues that night.
Have a great summer and thanks to all those that make this the Post what it is. Remember our goal is helping all Veterans that have served ourcountry proudly. Take a minute to remember our Fallen Comrades. God bless our Post and God bless America.

COLOR GUARD: Bob Brandt
We’ve been very busy participating in the community by presenting the Colors at Aitkin High School Graduation and during Memorial Day activities. We did the 21 Gun Salute, played Taps as well. We were at the Flag Retirement also. The First Friday Dinner of Walleye was also sponsored by us.

Summer is finally here, but it feels more like April. I can’t remember when we have had weather this cool and rainy. Hopefully summer plans and activities won’t be hampered by bad weather! The July 4thHoliday is around the corner along with the Aitkin County Fair starting July 5th. The VFW is again having their food booth and would appreciate our help, especially on Friday and Saturday. If you are able to help out, please contact Jody Ennis, 218-927-2962 for times needed.
Minnesota’s Department Convention will be held July 13,14 &15 at Mahnomen MN at Shooting Star Casino. We will be attending the convention with our 1st Vice, Cher Carlson and Commander Bob Carlson.
The General Meeting of the Post and Auxiliary is on July 13th. Past President Elaine Kienitz will preside on the Auxiliary side, and Past Commander Doug Huspek will preside at the Post meeting. The agenda for the meeting will be Riverboat Days, Saturday August 5th—in the past we have had a bake sale and walking tacos. I think we will again do the Bake Sale and Walking Tacos! Thanks go to Barb Jones for chairing this event and she would truly appreciate your help, so give her call!
Our Quilters have been busy making another beautiful quilt! We will have a raffle for the quilt again. Tickets selling for $1.00 each, winner will be drawn AFTER THE FISH HOUSE PARADE ON NOVEMBER 24TH! We have plenty of time to get those tickets sold--come on ladies, do your part. Proceeds will be donated to St Cloud VA Hospital after the cost of materials are recovered. As you see the quilt is BEAUTIFUL!!

RIVERBOAT DAYS: August 5,2017 10 am—4 pm
Our Post is ‘Headquarters’ for lots of action during the Community celebration. The street and parking lot will be filled with vendors of all sorts. So be prepared to shop! The Auxiliary will be selling baked items, walking tacos(you gotta check them out), etc. Walk over to dunk tank, toss a ball to make someone drop into the tank! (Let’s hope for warm temps). The Beer Garden will be pouring a cold one for you! The DJ will be playing fun music, he’ll take your requests, too. Grab a partner and sign up for the Bean Tourney! Starting about 5pm, the music moves inside along with more good times.

Check out the menu at the Post when you stop in. The food is great and the price is right! These events are open to the public, so bring friends and family! We are now able to have an ‘open bar’ during the Breakfast Buffet! Hope to see you there!
As was mentioned before, the Post Newsletter is a little different as we are trying to make sure you, our Members are informed about what’s going on. By emailing the Newsletter, you receive it faster, it’s always on your computer, tablet or phone for you check out when you think of something.
