JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: STAFF ACCOUNTANT
SUMMARY: Assist in various accounting department duties (namely A/R, GL, Costing, Budgeting, Account Reconciliations, etc.). Also, assist with Accounts Payable responsibilities for the development of all voucher packages, including matching of PO, Receivers and Vendor Invoices along with assisting in entering voucher data into Harris Data, verification and generation of checks, billing of customer invoices, application of cash receipts.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Accounting Manager
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Support safety training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the STOP Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation’s efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
- Manage the accounts receivable collection process. (Follow up on past due invoices, collection calls, conduct A/R meetings, etc.).
- Assist with accounts receivable activities (material invoicing, cash application, intercompany reconciliations, special billing, etc.).
- Month End Closing/ Account Reconciliations.
- Assist with annual budget process.
- Assist with accounts payable activities (coding, entering and proofing of voucher packages).
- Generate Accounts Payable checks, ACH, and communicate wire information to corporate as needed.
- Prepare checks for vendor distribution; i.e., insert applicable remittance information, etc. as needed.
- Must have ability to be cross-trained and used to assist or backup other areas of accounting.
- Possesses the ability and skillset to advance within the accounting department
- Has knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Adhere to all company safety guidelines.
- Attend and participate in all company mandated meetings.
- Any other duties assigned by Accounting Manager and/or Controller.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors in Accounting Degree&/or 4+ years applicable work experience. CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY:
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
