Our Occupational Health and Safety department is currently looking for a qualified individual to join this exciting team as an Industrial Hygienist for its Dallas/Ft. Worth operation.

This position is based at Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport and involves 75% travel. The primary responsibilities for this position is to maintain and improve the industrial hygiene and safety program.

Coordinate with dock/shop managers, supervisors, and tech crew chiefs to develop and maintain the corporate fuel tank entry/confined space program. Participate in and provide recommendations for accident investigations. Serve on the American Airlines Chemical Review Board to evaluate new chemical requests.

Develop and assist with implementing requirements and training programs for hearing conservation, respirators, confined space, fuel tank entry, lockout/tagout, personal protection equipment and powered industrial trucks. Participate in monthly Local and Base safety committee meetings. Conduct facility-wide noise assessments to identify high noise areas that must be included in the Hearing Conservation Program (HCP). Conduct personal air sampling on request and as a chromium, total dust, solvents, acids, caustics and isocyanates, etc.) Respond to OSHA complaints, inspections, and citations regarding health concerns in TUL and field locations.

Interpret and apply govermental (OSHA) regulations on a daily basis.

Represent American Airlines at the national AIHA conference and attend seminars pertinent to our industry and duties. Provide guidance and leadership of Transport Workers Union (TWU) Safety Chairpersons directing their activities to improve safety in the business unit. Actively involved with Continuous Improvement (CI) events for the different business units to improve both safety and productivity. Support and work with Industrial Engineers during development and construction of new/upgraded facilities and processes. Coordinate with the Training Department by consulting as the subject matter expert for safety training programs. Work in conjunction with the Environmental and Base Surveillance departments to facilitate program initiatives. Facilitate and provide technical expertise for the JSC Safety Committee and Accident Prevention Council meetings. Interface with all other departments as necessary.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is required to have a B.S. degree in industrial hygiene, safety, or engineering. Advanced degree and certification in industrial hygiene and/or safety is a plus. Ergonomic background a plus. The qualified candidate should have broad-based experience in conducting comprehensive safety and health inspections with OSHA.

General Industry Standards. Should be knowledgeable and familiar with ACGIH publication and materials. This position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, along with strong written and oral communication skills. Strong program management and computer skills are preferred.
