Welcome

Amanda Planchard, Co-chairperson welcomed everyone and introductions were made. Sulaiman Nuriddin not present. Laure Barton, PADV, filling in as secretary as former secretary Karria James is no longer working at PADV and has thereby resigned as secretary of the task force. The following agencies were represented: Tangu, road to Recovery, JCS, ANA, Grady NIA project, FC VWAP, Family Connection, Defying the Odds Inc, JF&CS Shalom Bayit, Ponce De Leon Counseling, Raksha, FC Accountability Court, SADV, PADV, ALAS, Breaking the Chains Inc., Families First, AVLF, Heal Clinic, Ahimsa House and Medlock Bridge Counseling.

Agenda/ Minutes approved. Motioned by Jodi Mount. Seconded by Telsie Davis.

Discussion to be continued regarding website/ facebook for task force.

Program Overview

Atlanta Legal Aid Society presented by Jodi Mount.The Atlanta Legal Aid Society has represented Atlanta's poor in civil legal cases since 1924. Our work helps our clients deal with some of life's most basic needs -- a safe home, enough food to eat, a decent education, protection against fraud, and personal safety. Our clients come from Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and GwinnettCounties in Georgia. Have a senior citizen project, assist with custody, divorce, criminal records. Must be under federal poverty line to be eligible for services (do not count abusers income). No charges for any services and will work with individuals to get a poverty affidavit for other court fees. Do not serve undocumented persons unless DV victim. Working with GAIN to assist with U-Visa and VAWA.

Committee Reports

FVIP- Terry Parks reports. Committee met and discussed several key topics.

  1. Goal established: The FVIP/ Victim Liaison subcommittee is a uniting body that serves to enhance fvip/ victim liaison relation. A collaborative effort to create safe communities in FultonCounty. Through this collaboration, we will develop and maintain the highest standard of services of victims safety, education of participants, and effective class facilitation.
  2. Definition of attendance
  3. Online payment system
  4. Should there be a cap on number of fvips in a county? Incentives for FVIPS to open programs in underserved areas.
  5. Monitoring of programs by GCFV
  6. Enhancement of Services
  7. FVIP standards
  8. How to handle tough situations in facilitation to ensure the safety of victims.
