DEPARTMENT RULES
- DELIVERY:
- Entry forms and bottles are to be delivered together.
- Bottles with entry forms and fees maybe shipped or hand-delivered to Brewmaster only. Bottles with entry forms and fees MUST BE hand-delivered to all other locations.
- Deliver bottles with entry forms and fees to Fairgrounds on May 29 only. No entries will be accepted after May 29.
- LIMITATIONS:
- Competition is open to all homebrewers over 21 years of age on May 29, 2010. Each household is limited to six beer and six wine entries, no more than one entry per class.
- Fair Management and/or competition organizer may consolidate classes, if warranted, due to low number of entries in a class.
- BOTTLING:
- Each exhibitor must submit a minimum of THREE clean, unmarked bottles, which are free of any identifying markings, in 12 oz bottles only. Due to the inconvenience of handling, no other bottles will be accepted. NIP bottles (6oz-8oz) will be accepted in the strong ale, mead and barley wine categories.
- Each bottle must have a label affixed by a rubber band with entrant name, division, class (spelled out), club, and any fruit, spices, or special or unusual ingredients.

- Each entry qualifies for the homebrew label design competition See DIVISION 415 for details to enter the homebrew label design competition.
- The competition organizer reserves the right to disqualify any entries not meeting the above guidelines or to consolidate classes, if warranted, due to low # of entries in a class.
- Entries become the property of the Alameda County Fair and will not be returned.
It is not against any Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms regulations or federal laws to ship your entries via privately owned shipping company for analytical purposes. It is illegal, however, to ship alcoholic beverages via the U.S. Postal Service.
- JUDGING:
The Homebrew competition uses the American system of judging. This judging ranks beers against one another and awards one first place, one second place, and one third place entry in each class.
Judges will be Experienced and BJCP Certified. Judges’ decision is final. Judging will be closed to the exhibitors. Results will not be given by phone. - DISPLAY: Homebrew will be displayed in the Agriculture Building for the duration of the Fair.
- AWARDS:
- Special rosettes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each class.
- Best of Show $100 gift certificate from BEER BEER AND MORE BEER (Concord).
- Reserve Best of Show $50 gift certificate from THE GOOD BREWER.
- $25 gift certificates from sponsor homebrew supply stores will be awarded for 1st place (based on highest points) in the following categories:
* Best Lager (from MORE BEER – Los Altos) within BJCP categories 1,2,3,4 &5.
* Best Hybrid Beer (from BREWMASTER) within BCJP categories 6,7 &15.
* Best British Isle Ale (from the BEVERAGE PEOPLE) within BJCP categories 8,9 & 11.
* Best American Ale (from the OAK BARREL WINECRAFT) within BJCP category 10.
* Best Stout or Porter (from the OAK BARREL WINECRAFT) within BJCP category 12 & 13.
* Best India Pale Ale (from BEER AND WINE MAKERS) within BJCP category 14.
* Best Belgian Beer (from MORE BEER – Los Altos) within BJCP categories 16,17,18 & 19.
* Specialty Beer (from BREWMASTER) within BJCP categories 20,21,22 &23.
* Mead or Cider (from BREWMASTER) within BJCP categories 24,25,26,27 & 28. - Results will not be given over the phone, or before opening day of the Fair. Awards and score sheets will be mailed after the Fair is over. Results will be posted at the Draught Board homebrew club website,

DIVISION 415 – HOMEBREW LABEL DESIGN
Limit Three Homebrew Label Designs Per Class Per Exhibitor
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place rosette per class
Exhibitors entering HOMEBREW DIVISION 405 (above), may enter the HOMEBREW LABEL DESIGN DIVISION 415 for free.
- DELIVERY:
- Attach the homebrew label securely and neatly to one side of a 5” by 8” card.
- On the reverse side, of the card, clearly state your name and class (‘1’ or ‘2’ as defined below).
- Enter each homebrew label design on your Entry Form. There is no fee for homebrew labels.
- Homebrew label designs must be dropped off with the homebrew entries.
- LIMITATIONS: Only 3 homebrew label design entries per class will be accepted.
- JUDGING: Homebrew label designs must reflect good taste.
- Judging criteria will be based on an exhibitor’s creativity and originality.
- Judges will be looking for an “attention grabber” that elicits further investigation based on use of color, design and composition. Judges decision is final.
- Judging will be closed to exhibitors.
- DISPLAY: Homebrew labels will be displayed in the Agriculture Building for the duration of the Fair.
