Summer Driver Education
2014
Classroom instruction for driver education will be offered this summer. All Students must be 15years of age or more to take this class. NOTE: A student may be 14 years of age at the beginning of a class-but must be 15 years of age on or before the class session ends to make application for the license.
The total cost to the student will be $76.00 for classroom instruction. There will be a $4.00 charge for the TEA Certificate (De-964E). Total: $80.00.
It is anticipated that a sufficient number of instructors will be available to accommodate all AmarilloPublic School students who desire to enroll.

I.IN-CLASS INSTRUCTION – Assigned High School
The schedule of classes for students enrolling in the classroom portion of driver education will be as follows:
Registration Thursday, May 29, at Palo Duro High School (5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.).

First Session June4 through June 25–DPS TEST (June 25)
(16 Week Days, Monday-Friday)
All classes at each campus will meet at the same time.
Second SessionJuly 7 through July 28– DPS TEST (July 28)

Class Times: 1.8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
- 10:10 a.m. – 12:10a.m.
- 12:20a.m. – 2:20p.m.
CAMPUS AND CLASS TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON THE NUMBER OF STUDENT REQUESTS
Required Documents for In-Class Driver's Education 2013
- An original or certified copy of Birth certificate, a valid U.S. 994 VISA passport, a resident aliencard, or a Texas I.D. Card. (No hospital birth certificates or photo copies will beaccepted by DPS.)
- School attendance verification form: Students may complete course work without V.O.E. or attendance verification.(Students with unacceptable attendance can not take the final DPS exam; however, when valid attendance verification is obtained, students may take the test at the Georgia and I-27 DPS office to obtain the restricted license).
- Social Security Card: (No photo copies). Applications can be submitted at I-27 & Republic.
- DL-5 TEXAS RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT(2 FORMS OF RESIDENCY MUST BE PRESENTED DURING PROCESSING) Go to for more information.
Note: License processing will take place at DPS. All paperwork and license fee is required. Instructors will give more information to students during class time.

Pre-Registration
Pre-Registration for classroom will take place May 1, 8, 9, 15, 16, &27in the school that the students attend or any school you choose to register. All fees need to be paid at that time and parents do not need to be present at registration.
AHS: MAY 1 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.Foyer of Old Gym

DRIVERS EDUCATION FEE $76.00 + $4.00 (Certificate Fee) = $80.00
Students should bring their money (cash or check), to be paid to A.I.S.D. No partial payment may be accepted. If payment is by check, the check should have the notation Driver Education and student’s name shown somewhere on the face of the check.
There will be only one pre-registration period for summer driver education. If a student does not have his tuition paid by the May 29registration times,or if he/she decides later that they wish to enroll into the in-class instruction, he/she should go to Palo Duro High School on Thursday, May 29 from 5-6 pm to enroll. There will be a $76.00 tuition fee for in-class instruction, and a $4.00 charge for the TEA Certificate (DE-964E). Total $80.00.
If a class does not make – a student will be notified by phone. A full refund may be requestedor a student can transfer to another class or campus. Minimum of (14) students are required to make a class.
If something happens that a student is unable to take Driver Education instruction after having paid his tuition, he/she may be given a refund by the following procedure:
- Before June 4 – take your paid receipt to his/her school secretary/financial clerk and request a refund. Put your parents name and address on the back of the receipt.
Please allow 2-3 weeks for refund processing. The refund will be the total amount paid
Less a$10.00 Refund fee.
- NO REFUND will be given after the assigned session has started.
- STUDENTS WILL BE DROPPED FROM CLASS ON THE SECOND UNEXCUSED ABSCENSE.
- Since each session is on a limited time basis, ATTENDANCE IS A MUST!
- EACH STUDENT MUST COMPILE 32 HOURS OF INSTRUCTION TO BE ELIGIBLE TO TEST WITH DPS.
Session Placement
Pre-registered students will be given priority to class time choices. After each student receives their assignment to session and time, it is his/her responsibility to be at the location designated on his paid receipt.THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS EACH STUDENT WILL MEET IN THEIR CAMPUS COMMONS AREA AT THEIR SPECIFIC TIME PERIOD ON THEIR RECEIPT.
Out of District Studentsmay enroll at any pre-registration site. Out of district students tuition fee will be$91.00for all course work, and a $4.00 charge for the TEA Certificate (DE-964E).Total $95.00.

THIS COURSEWORK ONLY PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH ATEXAS LEARNER DRIVER LICENSE.
A SUBMITTED DL-92 will be required by all participants for the driving portion in the state of Texas.
Upon completion of the classroom phase, students will be given all options for in-car instruction.
After completion of the in-car phase, students will need to bring their completed log sheet to the ESC of AISD (I-40 & Coulter).
Students will then be given a TEA certification for DPS to complete their provisional license application. Parents will receive an insurance copy of the (DE-964E) certificate from the Texas Education Agency at that time also. This document will provide a substantial savings on the student’s insurancepremiums, while driving between the ages of 16 to 21.
