At the University of South Wales we recognise and reward sporting achievement. Our Sports Scholarship Programme is available to students performing to a high standard in their chosen sport, and representing the University in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) league. We provide support to individuals to help them excel in both their sporting and academic careers.

Students studying on a full-time course on the Treforest, Glyntaff, Cardiff and Newport Campus can apply for aUSWSports Scholarship. These are designed to support potentially elite athletes and sports people who are competing at least atjunior national or international level in their sport.

Am I eligible for any of the Awards?

You can apply at any stage of your study (e.g. 1st year, 2nd year etc). You must also represent the University in the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) competitions. We will support the 'league’ sports as a priority, but will also consider the 'individual’ sports within theBUCSprogramme.

How do I apply?

To apply for a Sports Scholarship you will have to download a 2017/18 Sports Scholarship Application Pack. Please complete the application and return it to Gail Baptista in the Treforest Sport Centre by midday on Thursday 12 October 2017.

Renewal

Sports Scholarships can be renewed up to a total of four years. The Sports Scholarship Committee will review each individual award annually and you will need to complete a formal application each year if you wish to re-apply.

MCCUniversity Centre of Cricketing Excellence

The University in association with Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolitan University have formed the Cardiff/GlamorganCentre for Cricketing Excellence, as part of a national scheme run by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The Cardiff/Glamorgan Centre is one of only six UK Centres that have been developed to ensure that the best young cricketers can combine higher education with opportunities to develop their cricket. In 2007 and 2009 the Cardiff/Glamorgan Centre won the championship and in 2010 theBUCSleague.

What will the programme offer?

  2. A full-time coach
  3. Sports Science and medical support
  4. A playing programme which includes early season matches against first class counties,MCCUmatches andBUCSPremier League matches.
