Incentives and Recognition

Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s™

Recognition is an important component of any fundraising endeavor. Drafted here is a SAMPLE plan for recognizing your successful fundraisers and structuring incentives/prizes. Some NOTES:

·  Make decisions based on your budget, culture, resources, values, etc.; then adjust the chart accordingly

·  There are two types of potential recognition. Consider your interest in and options for each.

-  Threshold

○  Everyone who reaches a pre-established mark receives the incentive/prize

○  This can be based on funding, as shown below, time (e.g., early-bird fundraisers), team size, or whatever comes to your mind

○  Threshold prizes can be entry into a random-drawing for a more significant prize

-  Achievement

○  Only the individual (or group) with the highest, top, or most of some measure earns the incentive/prize

○  Don’t be limited to objective measures, but also consider subjective ones (e.g., Spirit Award, purple award, etc.)

·  Run all fundraising-related deadlines at least two weeks past the Walk, to allow for additional and final fundraising to occur

·  The proposed personal communication should not be announced, but rather simply executed as individuals achieve their respective fundraising thresholds (perhaps conduct review and distribution weekly)

Dear [Name]:

We are watching you! And from what we’ve seen, your Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ fundraising is doing well . . . more than $250 at the time of this writing.

Already this notable level is helping to lift our collective National Team fundraising efforts and is making progress in the vital work of the Alzheimer's Association®. Specifically, the funds raised are used for Alzheimer care, support, and advocacy in order to eliminate Alzheimer's disease and to provide the best care and support to those currently living with Alzheimer's.

So, please, continue your efforts, being sure to access all available fundraising vehicles (e.g., online fundraising tools to access friends and family, personal face-to-face requests, etc.). And, no matter what additional steps you take, be sure your dollars either get posted on your Walk site or reported directly through your local chapter. This will ensure we know the full impact you are helping us have.

We look forward to hearing more about your success!

In appreciation,

Organization’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ Leaders

Dear [Name]:

I see your fundraising total has now crossed the impressive threshold of $1000. What a performance you’re turning in this year!

The Alzheimer's Association® Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ is a very important initiative for our organization, as demonstrated by our commitment as a National Team. So it makes me proud that our commitment to this organization is widespread and embraced throughout our organization.

With more than 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer's, as a nation we must focus on how to better treat this disease and provide care to those directly affected. The Alzheimer's Association® stands squarely at the helm of this national effort, and we are happy to be doing our part.

Please know that while I watch our Walk fundraising totals climb, I am well aware of the effort and dedication required to make it all happen. So THANK YOU for doing your part and stretching all of us, pushing us ever forward towards a world without Alzheimer's.

Sincerely,

President or similar level
