Professional Development project

Membership Category

I have decided to join the American College for Sports Medicine to enhance my professional status. I believe that joining this organization will provide me with tools I need to continue learning and staying involved in this field. Last semester, I attended the Mid-Atlantic Regional conference and knew that this organization was a fit for me. I know that ACSM will provide me with networking opportunities as well as volunteer, research, and career development resources. I plan to attend another conference in the future and remain an active member.

Leadership

I am an active e-board member of the Rowan University Biology Club. My position is called public relations officer. My responsibilities entail managing all of our social media pages including Facebook and Twitter. I post regularly to inform members of upcoming meetings and service projects that we are planning. I also help reach out to freshman and other potential members and encourage them to join. I also manage our proflink page and help with posting flyers around the science building.

I am also a member of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. I have been a dues paying member of this organization since the fall of 2014. We are a very active Greek organization on campus. I spend time each week raising money for our national philanthropies and other causes including Ronald McDonald House, Relay for Life, JAR of Hope, the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the National Association for Anorexia Nervosa and Associative Disorders. I am also required to participate in several volunteer events throughout each semester such as back to the boro and clean and green. I also hold positions within the sorority. I am a member of the standards board, meaning that I am responsible to ensure that all members of our organization are meeting a certain standard and to handle situations with sisters when they are not meeting this standard. I am also arts and crafts chair, which entails helping to make any posters or supplies that we need at our events and at recruitment. Overall, Delta Phi Epsilon has enabled me to make the most out of my college career and I feel that it has helped shape me into a more well rounded individual.
