Notes:

  • The SCC group was introduced to the new principalMrs. Nicole Magan. She worked as a middle school vice principal for 11 years and has a style similar to Mr. Jameson’s.
  • Legislative changes were discussed. SCC elections may now be held in the spring or fall but the group decided to stick with the fall. This decision will remain in effect for 4 years and needs to be a part of the by-laws.
  • August 30th will be the deadline for nominations. The SCC open slots will be advertised at back-to-school night and via a summer mailing. Ten day notice is required before elections. There are 2 open parent slots for next year. The SCC will consist of 5 parents and 2 teachers plus the principal. The chair must be a parent but the vice chair may be a parent or a teacher. The chair will review issues and the agenda with the principal prior to meetings.
  • SCC decisions will be made by consensus.
  • The school is in need of someone to update the website next year.
  • Child routing plans are not currently required but may be done. Though Ryan Comp has assessed the situation and believes two crossing guards are needed. Sandy City has stated that there is not enough money for these crossing guards at 7thEast. Canyons District is negotiating with Sandy City to resolve this issue. Mr. Jameson will keep the SCC updated as more information becomes available.
  • Back to School night will be on Aug. 15th.
  • Changes were made to Altara’s SCC by-laws to reflect the changes in Utah law and were approved 8-0.
  • May 30th is an Open House evening and the SCC will have a booth. The purpose is to get the Crescent children and families familiar with the school. There will be a video in the gym and a raffle to encourage children to visit all stations. Mrs. Magann will be there so parents and students can meet her.
  • There was concern from a parent of a child with a severe peanut allergy. Steps will be taken to ensure that there is a peanut-free table in the cafeteria and that the child’s classroom is peanut free.
  • The group discussed how to communicate better with parents about missing assignments. Options discussed included a report that would detail assignment completion and concept mastery or a weekly email.
