Award:
The scholarship recipient will be selected from completed applications received within the postmark deadline.Currently, the award is open to any female high school seniors whom reside in the state of Arkansas. The recipient must also be entering the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for the first time during the summer or fall of 2018. The recipient will receive a onetime award in the amount of $500.00. Once proof of registration is established, the award will be split into two payments of $250.00 per semester. In order to receive the award for the second semester; documentation will be required to show proof of the student’s continued enrollmentand that the minimum 2.50 grade point average has been maintained. The award should be used for the purchase of books and other educational supplies only.
Criteria:
- Academic Achievement: The minimum grade point average for consideration of this scholarship is 2.50. The minimum testing scores for consideration are 17 for the ACT and 800 for the SAT. Candidates should include documentation of scores and transcripts containing grade point information along with this application.
- Community Service: Include all services that show involvement with the local, state, or national community that are not a part of school activities.
- School Activities: Include evidence of involvement in a variety of interests and commitments to the school community.
- Leadership Qualities: Include elected or appointed positions held in school, community, and / or volunteer related areas.
- Written Communication Skills: Include a typed paragraph response entitled
“The Importance of a Good Education”. Grading will be based on correct word usage, spelling, punctuation, organization of thought, and sentence structure.
Each student is required to complete sections 1, 2, and 3.
Sections 4 and 5 are to be completed by the principal or school counselor and a teacher.
AN INCOMPLETE APPLICATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED BY THE COMMITTEE.
