Update #1 - 7/15/2015

Aloha to our Quilting on the Beach Summer Campers!

Quilting on the Beach Summer Camp is almost here! We hope that you are just as excited as we are for this year's retreat. With the addition of several new events, such as Poker Night, Dinner and Theater, and our own Tropical Inspirations Quilt Show, QOTB Summer Camp 2015 promises to be the best ever!

Here are just a few updates and “things to know” as we head into next week:

Our Opening Campfire will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 6:00 pm at Old Airport Park at one of the pavilions along the beach. Please look for a “Welcome Quilting on the Beach Participants” banner, and watch for a good-looking bunch of quilters! Bring a beach chair if you like and join us for light pupus, games, a delicious s'mores dip, and a beautiful sunset.

Name Badges and welcome packets can be picked up at the Opening Campfire, or afterwards at Quilt Passions, or we will try to bring it to you at your first class if you haven't picked it up yet.

All classes (Sunday through Friday) will be held at the Paddler's Room at King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. Times for each class are 9:00 am until 4:30 pm (12:00 – 1:30 lunch break). Be sure to get your parking ticket validated each day at the Quilt Passions desk in the Paddler's Room.

Heat-Set Applique class: There has been a change from what was listed in the brochure in that the instructor has indicated that a sewing machine is not needed for either Sunday or Monday. If you signed up for a rental machine for these two days, you will be issued a refund or store credit. Also, although we all fell in love with the beautiful Hibiscus sample for this class, there are other patterns that you can choose from for this class; students will have the option to do Coneflowers in the Pink, Monarch's Cone Flower, A Bird in Paradise, Blue Butterfly Just Landed, Purple Tulip, The New Dawn Rose, and Plumeria. Please check out these designs on Grace's website (amazingquiltsbygrace.com), and let us know by Friday, July 17 if you would like to substitute one of the projects on this list for the Hibiscus. If we do not hear from you we will assume that you would like to do the Hibiscus (Home in the Aloalo).

Don't forget about out Meet the Designer event featuring Grace Errea on Monday, July 20 at 6:30 pm in the Paddler's Room. Grace will share her quilting and designing journey with us and will be showing many beautiful quilts. No charge for QOTB Summer Campers.

Exploring Value in Quilting: No sewing machine needed for this class either. Sorry for the confusion! Again, if you paid to rent a machine for this class, you will be issued a refund or store credit.

Disappearing Nine Patch class: If you have not already done so, please stop by Quilt Passions to choose your fabrics so that they can be pre-cut for class.

Poker Night: If you have already signed up, great – it’ll be fun. Currently we have 5 quilters registered – so at this point, we’ll probably pass the deck around and each person can select their favorite type of poker game…sort of a “home-game” style. If the group prefers to just play “Texas Hold’em” – then Robert has agreed to be the dealer. If the group expands, we have the ability to also have a black-jack (21) table for extra fun.

Soft Pockets Purse class: There is some prep work that the instructor would like students to do before class. Please stop by Quilt Passions to pick up your kit and get the instructions for this simple prep – it will make it easier to complete your project during class.

Tropical Inspirations Quilt Show and Show and Tell Dinner will be held at Hale Halawai on Alii Drive. Please stop by or call Quilt Passions if you need directions.

That's all for now! Please call or email if you have any questions, and we look forward to seeing you at camp!

Aloha,

Robert and Karen Barry and the Staff at Quilt Passions
