E. AMSUS Program – LtCol Kirk Martin

a. AFRC Coordination (LtCol Tom Salvagi per Col Burkins)

b. Send sample letter from Col Hochla regarding Henry Jackson Foundation to all concerned.

c. Also distribute letter to AsMA exhibitors

F. Henry Jackson Foundation discussed

a. This charitable foundation has a dedicated Account for the Alliance of ANG Flight Surgeons, and a dedicated tax ID number for use for contributions.

b. Col Harmon received $625 from Merck for sponsorship of Annual Meeting – given to treasurer

G. Top Knife – LtCol Lloyd

a. Being started up in Klamath Falls again

b. Flying F-15’s

c. Centrifuge training required for attendance

d. Can be done at Holloman on Friday prior to beginning Top Knife

e. Need CME reinstated for Top Knife. Col Falk working with Active Duty for this.

H. Antartica (ICE – 3) – LtCol Ramsey

b. After-action reports not available – will try to accommodate this

I. WMD Program – Col Falk and Col Sobel

a. ANG needs to become more involved in state response to WMD threat

b. Lots of ANG/AFRC presence at Air Force Medical Service GO roundtable recently

c. Alamo Alert – WMD exercise – to be held in San Antonio Feb 01

1. Col Falk and LtCol Chip Riggins involved

2. High visibility for AFMS, ANG

3. Col Sobel is special assistant to ANG Director, MGen Weaver

d. Exercise “Top Off” to be held in three cities later this month, can be followed on WWW

e. Long discussion held on state response to WMD

1. discussion regarding “new threat” and changes from 2 – MRC conflict scenario

f. Col Janco discussed theories of changing the AANGFS Constitution

g. All of this will be posted on the Alliance web site (Col Harmon/Col Janco)

J. AFRC Rep – Col Andy Burkins

a. Now serving as MA (AFRC assistant) to SAM/CC (BGen Dodd)

b. Encouraged attendance at Flight Surgeon Sustainment Course in Spring 01

c. Discussed pending merger of 4NO and 4FO career fields into 4WO

d. Discussed mentoring/leadership issues at earlier meeting of AFRC Flight Surgeons

K. AMSUS Dinner Program

a. Col Phil Lakier is Med Group/CC at Nellis Hospital

b. Mess Dress this year

c. 30th annual meeting/banquet

d. Speaker undecided: Tuskegee airmen vs. United Pilot of DC-10 crash landing

M. Web Site – Col Harmon and Col Janco

a. New changes per CMSgt Steve Ingersoll, INANG

b. Well received

d. Encourage more use for information distribution

N. Miscellaneous Business:

a. Discussion was held regarding attendance of Physician Assistants at Aerospace Medicine Program.

b. Col Terry suggested that the Alliance Board of Governors needs to remember to advise the Air Surgeon on all issues. Use a forum on the web site for input.

c. Col Sobel provided input on a Space Medicine branch of NASA involving Space Biology Training. She will get the information to Col Harmon for inclusion on the web site. Could serve as a good recruiting tool.

d. Nominating committee to consist of Col Steeves (chair), LtCol Warren, LtCol Guerdan, LtCol Chow, LtCol Dang, Col Janco.

e. BGen (ret) Johnson solicited applications for Associate Fellowship in AsMA, as well as progressing to Fellowship. He also needs qualified Book Reviewers from the Alliance for AsMA.

f. HSM planning to be held at start of Aerospace Medical Association meeting in Spring 2001.

g. Weaver Society meeting to be held 13 Sep 00 at 1800 hours at NGAUS meeting in Atlantic City.

h. Some threats mentioned to expand Commissioned Officer Training (COT) from present 2 weeks for Guard and Reserve medical officers.

i. Col (ret) Self, former ANG/SG, spoke on behalf of involving ANG medics in WMD preparation at state level also.

Meeting adjourned at 1100 hours; next meeting in Las Vegas at AMSUS in Nov 2000.
