1201 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte, NC / Monday - Thursday - 9:00am-8:30pm / Helping male and female adult students functioning on a 1st-8th grade level learn necessary skills to prepare for their GED. Tutors assist students with basic skills that show weakness in a specific area. The reading usually consists of a short story with vocabulary and comprehension questions. The math tends to be addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, and decimals.

Friday - 8:30am-1:00pm / Tutor adult students, functioning on a 1st-12th grade level, learn necessary skills to prepare for their GED. Tutors assist students with basic skills that show weakness in a specific area. The reading usually consists of a short story with vocabulary and comprehension questions. The math tends to be multiplication/ division, fractions, decimals, percentages, area/ volume problems, high school level algebra or geometry.

Thursday - 9:00am-1:30pm / Tutor adult students, functioning on a 5th-12th grade level, learn necessary skills to prepare for their GED. Tutors assist students with basic skills that show weakness in a specific area. The reading usually consists of a short story with vocabulary and comprehension questions. Most students are working on their math skills. The math tends to be multiplication/ division, fractions, decimals, percentages, area/volume problems, high school level algebra or geometry. Setting a regular schedule is requested.

Charlotte, NC 28206 / Tuesday-Thursday – 9:00am-1:00pm / Teacher directed class with individual instruction. Volunteers will be asked to:
- Help students read and comprehend passages and understand questions.
- Help students with math skills
- Help students with writing skills

Friday - 8:30am-12:30pm / Tutor adult students, functioning on an 8th-12th grade level, learn necessary math skills to prepare for their GED. Tutors assist students with basic skills that show weakness in a specific area. The math tends to be multiplication/ division, fractions, decimals, percentages, area/ volume problems, high school level algebra or geometry. Volunteer tutors tend to work with multiple students in one session.

1201 Elizabeth Ave., Charlotte, NC / Monday – Thursday – 1:00pm-4:00pm / Volunteers will be asked to help as a mathematics tutor.Students vary in their proficiency level, however the majority of students are in need of additional help with fractions.
Tutor Math at the City of God ministries / 3501 Tuckaseegee Road
Charlotte, NC 28208 / Wednesday
5:30-6:30 / This is a ABE and GED program that foresters learning and GED Passing. These students are not native English speakers. Volunteers will be asked to assist with GED level math and will be asked to set a regular schedule.

ESL and Other Opportunities

Tutor Adult Refugee Students Learn English as a Second Language / 3601 Central Avenue Charlotte, NC 28205 / Monday-Thursday - 9:00am-12:00pm / Come out and tutor Adult Refugee Students Learn English as a Second Language. These students all have legal refugee status and have been referred to this class by the local refugee office. This is a multi-leveled class, meaning that students range in their level of English proficiency. Volunteers are often asked to work one-on-one, or in small groups, with students.
Assist ASL Students with Basic Skills / Goodwill Industries

Everyone entering the buildingmust enter through the front door, sign in and receive a sticker; at thatpoint someone will escort you to the room. / Tuesday and Thursday – 12:00pm-1:30pm / With 7 Deaf students, we work on variety skills, newspaper reading, computer, using VRS, and what the students need to learn.
We use America Sign Language in our classroom. Volunteers will be asked to help with using e mail, learning their id user and password on the computer, reading the newspaper for job adv, clothes adv, apt seeking etc. Volunteers MUST be highly proficient in American Sign Language

Volunteers are welcome any time between 9:00am-8:00pm on these dates. / Help with student retention! Volunteers will be asked to call students that have not been attending class regularly and ask them to return.
