Psalmody Psalm 23

O my Beloved, You are my shepherd, I shall not want;

You bring me to green pastures for rest and lead me beside still waters

Renewing my spirit; You restore my soul.

You lead me in the path of goodness to follow Love’s way.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow and of death,

I am not afraid.

For you are ever with me; your rod and your staff they guide me.

They give me strength and comfort.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of all my foes.

You bless me with oil. My cup overflows.

Surely goodness and kindness will follow me

All the days of my life;

And I shall dwell in the heart of the Beloved forever.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever.

Amen.

Psalm Prayer
Leader: Let us pray together:
Lord Jesus Christ, Shepherd of your people, you give us new birth in the waters of baptism,
you anoint us with saving oil, and you call us to salvation at your table.
Dispel the fear of death. Lead your people along safe paths,
that they may rest securely in you and live in your Father’s house.
We ask this in your name, Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gospel: John 12

“I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.

Whoever loves his life loses it,

and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life.

Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be.

The Father will honor whoever serves me.”

This is the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God.

Psalm Prayer
Leader: Let us pray together:
Father of mercies and God of all consolation,
you pursue us with untiring love and dispel the shadow of death

with the bright dawn of life. Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by dying has destroyed our death, and by rising, restored our life. Enable us therefore to press on toward him, so that, after our earthly journey is run, he may reunite us with those we love in your dwelling place, where every tear will be wiped away. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Silence (Sharing)
Intercessions
Leader:
We acknowledge Christ the Lord through whom we hope that our lowly bodies will be made like his in glory, and so we say: Lord, you are our life and resurrection.

1. Christ, Son of the living God, who raised up Lazarus, your friend, from the dead; raise up to life and glory the dead whom you have redeemed by your precious blood. We remember especially our Brothers and our family members who have died:
(Brothers are asked to name aloud recently deceased Brothers/family members whom they wish to remember today)

Response: Lord, you are our life and resurrection.
2. Christ, consoler of those who mourn, you dried the tears of the family of Lazarus, of the widow’s son, and of the daughter of Jairus: comfort those who mourn for their loved ones today.

Response: Lord, you are our life and resurrection.
3. Christ, Prince of Peace, bring peace to our world torn by strife and division, by violence and fear; may all nations, races and creeds work towards establishing peace in this world.

Response: Lord, you are our life and resurrection.
4. Christ, our deepest longing, when our earthly home is dissolved, give us a home, not of earthly making, but one built of blessedness and love with you forever.

Response: Lord, you are our life and resurrection.

Lord’s Prayer

Leader: Let us pray as Jesus taught us. Our Father…

Closing Prayer

Leader: Let us pray together;
O God, from whom the just receive an unfailing reward,
grant that all who have died may rejoice forever in your presence,
for they were a faithful stewards on earth of the mysteries of your forgiveness and grace.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Leader:

Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them.
