(For Interested Parties NOT presently involved in the program)

For the next year, the Stream to Sea Program (formerly called the Salmonid Program) will be run out of the BIG Little Science Centre, with Gord Stewart and Joanne Nicklas coordinating the program. For those familiar with the program, we are planning on keeping technical and educational services the same as in previous years, and for new teachers interested in becoming involved in the program, please apply using the following form, or contact either Gord or Joanne at the BLSC.

Message:

For over thirty-five years our school district has been involved in the Salmonid Classroom Incubation Program, now called the Stream To Sea Program. Teachers and students involved in this program complement their studies by having a salmon aquarium in their care. Teachers are provided with salmon eggs, incubators, teacher resources, and technical assistance, courtesy of a contract the BIG Little Science Centre has with the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The Salmonid Enhancement Program stresses, among its goals, the importance of involving school children in meaningful and interactive ways with the valuable salmon resource.

The Kamloops/Thompson School District presently has over thirty aquariums in elementary and secondary schools. However, each year there are many new requests from teachers to acquire an aquarium. There are usually some aquariums to be re-assigned due to teachers moving schools, assuming a different role, or having a different classroom focus.

If you have a staff member who wishes to become involved, please ensure he/she completes the attached application form no later than September 22nd, 2017.

Teachers who presently are in charge of an aquarium at their school and wish to continue with the program, need not re-apply.

Thank you for your continued interest and support in the Stream to Sea Program.
