JOB TITLE: / Machinist – Miller (Manual and CNC –Programmer, Setter, Operator)

JOB PURPOSE: / To Machine parts to the required specifications in line with the completion targets set, providing feedback pro-actively throughout the production cycle
KEY RESULT AREAS: / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE / To machine parts to the required standards in the most efficient way possible, utilising available equipment, working closely with direct colleagues, manging the overlaps between Turning and Milling operations.
To understand schedule requirements and pro-actively work towards ensuring parts are manufactured in the correct sequence and adapt to un-scheduled requirements as deemed necessary by the business
Use initiative to adjust schedules as a result of machine and material availability or due to changes in the planned workload
Highlight manufacturing issues and play an active part in reaching an efficient, economical and rapid solution to the identified issues.
Work closely with departmental colleagues to expedite part production at all times
Liaise with other team members and departments such as Inspection, Production Engineering and Design as required
To identify any tooling or gauging requirements at the earliest opportunity
Ensure measuring equipment is submitted for calibration in line with the Calibration schedule and tools are maintained to a standard relevant to their required use
To ensure any issues with machine tools are highlighted and any routine servicing and maintenance is conducted as required
To be aware of raw material stock levels, requesting replenishment as necessary, or asking for specific orders as identified.
To ensure machinery and the general workplace is kept clean and tidy at all times
To provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement for both specific parts and processes in line with RML’s philosophy of Continuous Improvement
To be aware of the RML Health and Safety policy and be mindful of the safety of both yourself and others.
2. CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE / To always look for and highlight ways of ensuring parts are made in the most efficient way possible, to the highest quality possible.
Provide the required feedback on timesheets and associated paperwork, to assist with data accuracy in a timely manner.
To provide assistance to other departments as requested
Fully utilize equipment outside of the department (shot blasting equipment or other finishing processes) to ensure finished parts are of the best appearance possible
3. FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE / Use tooling in a conscientious manner and when requesting replacements, ensure the appropriate process is followed and authorizations gained
Provide feedback to the Production Engineer where actual run-times vary from these estimated on jobs
4. LEARNING & GROWTH / Be aware of the capabilities of the available equipment and software
Pro-actively research new tooling and equipment and provide suggestions for improvements as appropriate where there may be a benefit to RML
Identify areas where training can be provided and aspire to increase skills in both practical areas as well as supporting areas such as CAM or administrative activities
