ALL PLAYERS MUST READ AND UNDERSTAND THE RULES, IT IS THE CAPTAINS RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THIS HAS BEEN DONE.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RULES & CONDUCT

PLAYER WAIVER

POND HOCKEY IS BASED ON FUN, SPORTSMANSHIP and FAIRPLAY. All participants are to conduct themselves in a manner to exemplify sportsmanship and are expected to manage the games with the assistance of an event volunteer. The purpose of the event volunteer is to manage the time and keep score. In an ideal world of pond hockey the volunteer will not have to call a penalty and the players will conduct themselves in a manner that is fun, competitive and within the rules. The off-ice volunteer will however enforce the following rules and their say will be final.

GAME COMPOSITION

Games consist of tworunning 15-minute halves. The last minute of each game if the score is within 5 goals will be stop time.

All games will start at the posted game time. Any teams late for games will be penalized 1 goal for each minute late to a maximum of 10 goals in 10 minutes, at this time the team that did not take the ice will forfeit the game with a 0-10 loss.

Regardless of circumstances there will be no rescheduling of the game, unless the tournament organizers choose to do so at their discretion.

Teams are limited to a final roster of 8 players with a max of 4 players on the ice at one time.

Substitutions can be made at any time throughout the game and the game will continue on. Substitutions must ONLY be made into and out of the designated team “bench” area for each game.

There is no stoppage of play after a goal is scored or a penalty is awarded, or if the puck goes out of play. The tournament official will throw a new puck in play. If the puck goes out of play at any point on the rink the volunteer will determine the last team to touch the puck and the other team will be awarded possession at the exact spot that the puck went out and the opposing team will allow the player with possession 3 seconds and 10 feet to get set up. Once the player is determined to be set up with the puck the off ice volunteer will signal with “go” and both teams will go back to action. If a player is deemed to be delaying the game by shooting the puck out of play, and or taking their time to get set up once awarded possession, the volunteer may call a delay of game penalty.

The last minute of each game will be stop time, and the time will be kept by the off ice volunteer.Teams will switch ends at the end of the first half.

ALL penalties result in a change of possession. The offending team must go to their own side of centre and the team the other team will get possession of the puck behind their own net.Penalties are tracked by the Volunteer.

Penalty shots will be distributed at the end of the game. They will be awarded by differential. For example if one team got three penalties and the other 2, the one with 2 penalties would be awarded one penalty shot.

Penalty shots will be taken by a shot from a determined penalty shot area(marked) and will take place on an open net. Any eligible player can take a penalty shot. The volunteer will determine based on ice conditions which net the penalty shots will be made.

Major penalties will result in an immediate goal awarded to the opposing team and as well a player ejection. When a player is ejected the team will play short for the remainder of the game. If there is a coincidental ejection of players both teams will play short players for the remainder of the game, there will be no penalty shots awarded. For instance if one player slashes a player, and the other retaliates with a slash. Both players will be ejected and the teams will play the remainder of the game 3 on 3. A player that is ejected will have his/her case reviewed by the tournament board to determine if they may be allowed to return for the rest of the tournament.

The team cannot replace an ejected and/or injured player with an alternate player. All rosters are final.

ALL teams must present a roster with appropriate identification one hour prior to their first game for each player at registration

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

All participants in the adult competitive division must be 18 years of age prior to the first day of play. All other adult divisions have a minimum age of 15 years of age prior to the first day of play.

In youth divisions age is determined as of the first day of the regularly scheduled tournament. If a player is 13 as of March 5 he/she will be eligible for the U13 division.

One hour prior to each games first game all players must present appropriate photo ID for age verification at registration along with a signed waiver/rules form. Once a team has played their first game, no additions to the original roster can be made via substitution and/or addition.

Rosters can only be adjusted right up until the one-hour mark prior to the first game.

Players can play on multiple teams as long as they are on that roster. However, the tournament will make no attempt to accommodate these types of players on the schedule. If there is a conflict it is up to the player to choose the team they are playing on. Once they step on the ice for one team, they cannot switch for the remainder of the game.

SCORECARDS

Captain of each team will review and SIGN the scorecards at the end of each game. In doing so he/she has accepted the game score and as a result that game is FINAL. If a discrepancy with the score is found, both Captains are to discuss it with the Volunteer and if need be you can ask to speak with the Head Volunteer Official. The winning teams captain will bring the scorecard to the main score table.
