Alice Richards offers some helpful tips and advice for any worried year sixes with some useful pointers from Beth Sharpe and Francesca Leslie.

As a student at Tuxford Academy, I understand how a year seven will feel when they come up to secondary school. When a student first starts Tuxford Academy questions run wild around their heads: what do I do if I am late or what if I leave my tie at home? I asked some of my friends about what they didn’t know then and what they know now to help you out.

Q: What do I do if I forget or lose my tie?
A: Go to your college reception, say what college you are in and ask to borrow a tie.

Q: What do I do if I am late?
A: Go to college reception to sign in then go to your lesson.

Q: What happens if I forget my lunch money?
A: Ask at college reception to borrow some money, which you would then need to repay the next day.

Q: What if I lose my timetable?
A: Go to your college reception, say your name and form and then ask for a new timetable.

Q: Where do I go if I get lost?
A: Go to any of the receptions and ask there or ask a member of staff or student for directions.

Q: What do I do if I am being bullied?
A: Tell your form tutor or ask your parent to contact the school.

Q: How do I know when it is my turn to go into lunch?
A: A sheet of paper will be pinned up saying when it is your year group can go in.

Q: What if I feel unwell?
A: Ask your teacher for a note to go and see the nurse or if you are very unwell your teacher will write you a note and send you to college reception to phone home.

Q: Where do I put trip letters?
A: In the college reception trip box on the wall.

Q: Can I buy equipment and uniform from school?
A: Yes, down in the Winter/Sherwood gardens is a shop for equipment and uniform.

Q: Will older children push past me in the corridor?

A: There may be times when the corridors get crowded, which means people may push by you so just try to be careful and let people through when necessary.

After a few weeks you will be used to the school and how the corridors are. You will not have to worry about anything at all. If you do have any problems, be sure to contact your form tutor. They are the first person you should go to with any problems and they will be sure to help you out.
