iPass Remote Access Installation Document

Introduction

Welcome to Seagate’s new remote access dialer, iPassConnect™ 3.2 for Windows! The iPassConnect client is a simple, easy-to-use desktop client that allows remote users to connect to the Internet using a modem through iPass’ global network of providers. It has a point-and-click interface for connecting to iPass access points, and supports Microsoft® Windows 98 SE, 2000 and XP.

Connecting to Seagate using the iPassConnect client is a two step process. First, you must launch the iPassConnect client and successfully connect to the Internet. Then you will be prompted to connect to the Seagate network using a VPN-SSL gateway.

Note: The iPassConnect client will automatically launch the SSL-VPN selection box after a successful iPass authentication.

This document will serve as a guide for downloading, installing, and connecting to Seagate with the iPass and launching the SSL gateway.

Downloading and Installing the iPassConnect Software

  1. Open your Internet Explorer (Netscape will not work) and go to

You may be prompted for a username and password. If so, enter your Global ID as the username and your PIN + token passcode as the password.

  1. Click the install file called ipass_320_nw.exe.
  2. Select the Save button


  1. Select a location on your computer in which to save the file. The Desktop or some other easily-visible location is recommended.

  1. Double-click on the executable file once it is downloaded and saved.
  2. You will see a Welcome Window for “iPassConnect Setup”. Click the Next button.

  1. Accept the licensing terms for iPassConnect by check marking the check box and clicking the Yes button.

  1. You will see a window in which you may choose the destination folder. It is recommended that you clickNext to accept the default location.

9. Wait for the notification that the installation is complete.

Lauching the SSL-VPN gateway NG VPN Client

The SSL gateway is required in order to successfully connect to Seagate using the iPassConnect software.

1. Launch your Internet browser. (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer )

3. Click on the SSL gateway closest to your location.

Connecting to Seagate with iPassConnect

Connecting to Seagate using the iPassConnect client is a two-part process. First, you must launch the iPassConnect software and successfully connect to the Internet. Then you will be prompted to connect to the Seagate network using one of the SSL gateways.

  1. Locate the iPassConnect icon on your desktop and double-clickit.

  2. Select your physical location (Country, State, and City) from the drop-down menus.
    To search by an area code rather than a city, selectUnited States for the country and then type the area code and exchange (3-digit prefix) you wish to search for. This will find local numbers within the specified area code.

  3. Click the Find button.
    You will see a list of access points available by type.
  • Modem access points are used for dial-up connections with a regular modem. Numbers listed in the phone book are in order of reliability, performance at the top.
  • ISDN access points are for use with an ISDN telephone connection.
  • If any wired broadband connections are available, they will be listed.
  • If you have a home broadband connection available, it will be listed.
  1. Select a connection from the available list.
  2. If you need to dial an additional number to access an outside line, click on the Dial Properties button and enter the number in the appropriate box. ClickOK.
  3. Press the Connect button.
  4. Enter your Global ID in the User Name field and your iPass password in the Password field.

  1. It is recommended that you , checkmark the Save Password box and press the OK button. By doing so, you will not need to enter the 'login' and 'password' on subsequent uses of the iPass client.

  2. After you press OK, the Connection Status message box will appear. You may press the Info> button to see more details.

  3. After you have connected and authenticated, you will receive phone book updates periodically. This process typically 1-5 minutes depending on your connection speed.

  4. The SSL-VPN gateway box will automatically launch. Select the SSL gateway closest to your physical location and press OK.

  5. Enter your Global ID as your username and the RSA PIN + passcode for your password when prompted for authentication.

To Disconnect:

Double-click on the iPass icon (red, curvy “i”) in your lower right-hand corner and press Disconnect.

This will automatically disconnect your VPN session as well.
