Algebra II - Syllabus

  1. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course includes operations with functions; the study of polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions and their graphs and expressions involving complex numbers; sequences and variation. Completion of Algebra II with a passing grade is required for graduation.
  1. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Students are held to a high expectation.Throughout the course, students work together on a regular basis, formally and informally. In developing new concepts a whole class discourse is used. Students may make a contribution to the class discourse at any open opportunity. I allow for students to explain solutions or give further interpretation to their classmates. This allows me to see the comprehension of my students as well as those needing extra help.

Materials needed are pencils, paper, binder for notes, and a graphing calculator

Grades will be based on the following scale:

Tests and major projects – 50%Dailygrades, quizzes and homework – 50%

Tests will be given approximately three times per nine weeks. Make-up tests must be scheduled within 2 weeks of the absence.

Homework will be taken up, checked, and recorded as a grade. Late work will be accepted for a maximum earned grade of a 70.

Academic Integrity – Cheating on tests/quizzes or copying assignments will not be tolerated. The student will receive a zero on their work and a referral to the office.

Tutoringisscheduled after school on Wednesdays until 3:30 and other days as needed. I encourage all students to attend if you are in need of additional help or need to make up work, including tests.

Classroom rules:

  1. A tardy will be assigned to anyone who is not in the room when the bell rings.
  2. Come prepared to learn. This includes bringing necessary materials and homework to class.
  3. Treat all with respect.

Student Expectations:

  1. Show all work/steps necessary to convince the teacher that you know how to solve the problem or use the concept being studied in order to receive partial to full credit.
  2. Copy down a complete set of notes with teacher examples to use later for reference. Keep your work and notes organized in a binder.
  3. Study for tests. Go over your notes and rework the problems done in class or for homework.
  4. Be responsible and seek help when needed whether in class or during tutorials.
