Consumer Math – Course Outline

Mr. Snyder

Welcome to Consumer Math!! Here is some important information that you will need to know as we begin our semester together.

1)  Materials - To start the class, you will need the following:

  1. A charged Tablet
  2. A mouse for the tablet; preferred when working on Projects

2)  Grading – your grade will be determined by dividing the total number of points you earn by the total points possible.

a. Projects: 20 to 50 points

b. Class work: 10 points

c. Quizzes/Tests: 20 to 40 pts

d. Your tablet everyday: 10 pts

3)  Absences

  1. If you are absent from class and miss any type of assignment you have as many days as you were absent to make that work up. In some cases extra time may be needed and that will be discussed between myself and your parent/guardian. If you are absent for any reason, you can follow what we are doing using OneNote.

4)  Academic Dishonesty (Cheating)

  1. A grade of zero will be given for cheating or suspicion of cheating on any assignment.

Do your own work!

5) Online Resources

a. All projects, practice quizzes/tests, class calendars and video tutors are available through

my class OneNote. All of these can be used for when you are absent.

6)  Parent/Student Portal

a. Student progress can be monitored through the Parent Portal of the Genesis Student

Information System. This system will enable you to access student grades and attendance

online. This student information will be updated in a timely fashion throughout the school

year.

As a student in Mr. Snyder’s Consumer Math class, I understand and will follow these few simple rules:

o  Come to class on time and prepared. On time means that you will be in the classroom when the bell rings. Prepared means that your materials will be out and ready to use immediately upon entering the room.

o  Respect classmates, teachers and yourself. This is your education, please take it seriously. Consumer Math is an elective; if you cannot follow simple rules-you do not need to be here. There is absolutely no reason to have a cell phone out during class; I don’t want to see it. As a courtesy, you may use ear buds to listen to music when we are working on projects. Use common sense, if it is abused and you become a disruption; no more music.

A few last words:

o  Projects and Class work are very important, in fact essential for passing this class. The class is what you make it; it is more enjoyable for everyone if we all participate. This includes doing Power Point presentations.

o  Attendance is also very important. You are responsible for any material covered when you are absent for any reason. All class information will be on OneNote; any type of assignment can be completed and turned in using the tablet.

o  It is very important that you are in class on test/quiz days. If you are absent on these days, you MUST make up the test/quiz after school or during another arranged time, NOT during class time. All missed quizzes/tests must be completed prior to the next quiz/test.

o  There will be extra help after school for anyone who needs it. Please take advantage of this opportunity. It is commendable to seek help when you need it. Come to extra help with specific questions. Don’t just show up and say “I don’t get it”.
