Main Functions: / To undertake/be responsible for effective site/groundsmanagement, maintenance, improvements and servicing across the school.
To undertake lettings.
To effectively manage site staff and cleaners.

PUPOSE OF THIS ROLE

To provide efficient and effective whole school site/grounds maintenance and management. To contribute to the co-ordination and management of Health & Safety across the school.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

You will be responsible tothe Business Manager

You will line manage a small site team including a team of cleaners which includes monitoring performance, professional development and delegation of tasks to support operational premises requirements.

The role involves regular liaison with other teaching and support staff in school.

You will regularly and effectively communicate with all school colleagues, external contractors and the Local Authority.

You will regularly liaise with community users of school facilities.

Key result areas include:

Provide supervision, monitor performance and allocate tasks to team members.
Maintain and improve operational efficiency and quality of service through improvements in procedures/process.

It will be necessary to work with I.C.T. and associated systems.
General
  • Manage a team of site staff and cleaners and arrange cover for absent colleagues.
  • Provide induction and training for others liaising with the Business Manager where external training is recommended.
  • Participate in the recruitment of premises staff.
  • Support the Business Manager in the day to day management of premises related budgets, providing updates on anticipated expenditure and advice on urgent repairs and maintenance issues.Be responsible for the requisition of goods/services, obtaining quotes where required.
  • Assist the Senior Leadership Team in the management and co-ordination of major and minor capital building projects.
  • Be responsible for the security of the site, buildings and contents and attend to emergency call outs outside of normal working hours.
  • Ensure the effective heating of the premises.
  • Be responsible for general maintenance and apply practical skills to undertake/manage minor repairs, maintenance and decorations or such other work as may be required up to a height not higher than 25ft (hand height not foot height) or if being used, the maximum height of the school scaffolding. Ensure any work undertaken is compliant with appropriate risk assessments.
  • Ensure that all areas are kept clean and tidy and that general waste, sanitary waste and recycling are managed by suitable contractors.
  • Arrange servicing and testing of equipment, machinery, safety and security systems. Liaising with the finance team on costings.
  • Undertakeporterage duties including setting out and or moving of furniture etc are undertaken safely.
  • Work with the site staff to prepare the school site during adverse weather conditions, working outside of normal working hours if necessary to ensure safe access across the site.
  • Be available and attend to the requirements of hirers of the premises for the purpose of evening, holiday and weekend lettings including sports lettings. Liaise regularly with the Sports & Community Manager and other colleagues to ensure awareness of bookings, hirers’ requirements and staffing needs.
  • Supervise and assist external contractors.
  • Oversee the grounds maintenance contractors and carry out grounds maintenance tasks in between visits. Ensure quality delivery and safe practice by the contractor.
  • Oversee the maintenance and service of the school minibus. Drive the minibus when required. This may include transport of students on off-site visits.
  • Work with the Business Manager to co-ordinate and manage H&S across the school.
  • Maintain an up-to-date COSHH register for all chemicals used by site staff and cleaners, ensure adherence to DCC procedures on the use of products within a school setting.
  • Undertake the testing of portable appliances throughout the school and maintain records of testing.

Comply with the School’s Health & Safety policy/procedures and ensure that staff, contractors, visitors and users of the school facilities do the same.

Risk Management

Carry out risk assessments and review annually for premises relatedactivities. Under the guidance of the Business Manager co-ordinate and manage the annual review of risk assessments relating to designated faculties. Identify opportunities and risks associated with the service and escalate/report to the Business Manager.

Carry out any additional duties within the overall function commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the job.
