ALBUM COVER INDEPENDENT PROJECT

  1. Choose a music type from the list.
  2. Research the music style to figure out the following:

How did the genre start

Key artists

What instruments are commonly used to create the sound?

Is there a specific kind of sound that characterizes this music?

What time period was the music popular? Is it still popular?

Does the music appeal to a certain age group?

Does the music make a political statement? For example: In the 60’s much of the lyrics were anti-war.

  1. Choose one artist or group from the style of music you are researching.

What years did this artist (group) produce music?

Name of artist (or group members)

Name of band (if it is a group)

How did the band come up with its name? (if a group)

How did the artist (group) get started?

How old was the artist (or group members) when performing?

Where is the artist (group) from?

What instrument does the artist (group members) play?

How many albums were produced?

Does the artist (or group) have any unique qualities that make it stand out…..for instance KISS painted their faces, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith always has a long scarf on his microphone stand.

Any other cool facts you would like to share about the artist or group.

  1. Choose one song that artist/group you chose is famous for, or that is your favorite. Select a 1 minute clip of the song to play for the class
  2. Present your cover to the class and play the 1 minute clip. I will have a tape player and CD player for you to use.

***Album covers are about 12 inches by 12 inches. You do not have to make a fold out album cover but you may if you want to increase the amount of space to get all of the information on it.

***One side of your cover should include the information in #2……the style of music

***The other side of your cover should include the information in #3……the artist (or group)

***Include some type of collage, artwork, or design that represents the genre, time period of the music, or your own interests.

BE CREATIVE…………INCLUDE SOME ART…………….PLEASE DO NOT JUST LIST THE INFORMATION ON TWO SIDES OF A PIECE OF PAPER!

THIS PAGE OF DIRECTIONS IS FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE WORKING ALONE. If you choose to work in a group please follow the group instructions.
