Overview of the course: You will learn about the basic concepts used in geography andexplore the physical components of the earth and the political and economic aspects of the peoples living in different regions of the world.

Course description: The course emphasizes the basic concepts used by geographers to understand the physical and human aspects of theworld: Location, Human interaction, Place, Region and Movements of peoples and goods. You will learn about some basic tools used by geographers to understand places and regions such as maps, graphics and models of spatial analysis.

Additionally, the geography of the Islamic world will be examined.

Course objectives:

After completion of the world geography course you will be able to:

-Understand the major physical and human aspects of the different regions that compose the world.

-Use maps and geographic models to understand places and regions.

-Gain a concise knowledge of the history and geography of the Islamic world beyond the stereotypes.

-Use geographic concepts and tools to understand phenomena and solve problems in social studies.

Student’ s obligations and responsibilities to successfully complete the course:

-You are expected to actively participate in class.

-You must maintain an updated and well organized note book that includes summaries of topics and lectures’ notes taken in class.

-Be disciplined and display good behavior with classmates and teacher. No talk or movement allowed in class without permission. (15% of your grade for discipline and class participation).

-Always arrive to class on time and bring textbook and all required materials.

-Be prepared for exams and complete all your homework on time. Late homework is subject to disciplinary actions.

-Incidents of academic dishonesty will be reported to the administration.

-You must observe all the Al-Noor Academy rules. Consequences of rules’ violation will be implemented as stated in the Al-Noor Academy manual.

GRADING CRITERIA; Course grade will be determined as follows:

25% Scheduled tests (one test every month).

15% Discipline and class participation.

10%Updated and relevant note book.

20% Unscheduled quizzes.
