Overview:AIMIndependentLivingCenterhas two full-time positions available in ourLongTermCareOmbudsmanProgram(LTCOP). The LTCOPserves as anadvocateandresource forpersonswho livein nursinghomes,adult homes and otherlicensed residential facilities.
Ombudsmanhelpresidents and their families understand andexercise theirrights to qualityofcareand qualityof life. Theprogram promotes and protectsresidents’ health, safety,welfareandrightsbyreceiving,investigatingand resolvingcomplaints madebyor onbehalf ofresidents.
Essential Functions:
- Ensuresoverallprogramoperationand compliancewith Federal and Staterequirements
- Directsupervision ofprogram personnel as well as overallsupervision ofOmbudsmanvolunteers
- Conductsgroup supervision and training with supervisorypersonnel
- Closelymonitors cases
- Ensures that the necessarynumber of active Ombudsman volunteers is maintained on anongoingbasis
- Meets with facilityadministrators to resolvefacility/program conflicts, as necessary
- Responds to resident issues andconcerns,as necessary
- Ensures the ongoingimplementation of certification and in-servicetrainingsessions forOmbudsmanvolunteersconducted in accordancewith State OmbudsmanProgramrequirements
- Participates in Ombudsmanvolunteertraining,asappropriate
- Maintains liaison with allappropriate County, State,andFederalagenciestoensurethat theprogramreceives support fromlocalagencies, legal assistance providers, advocatesandprovidergroups
- Maintainscontact with relevantagenciesandprograms to provide information and supportforprogramactivities
- Develops and implements programmatic administrative policiesandprocedures
- Recommendsvolunteersto theStateLongTerm Care Ombudsmanfordesignation asLongTermCareOmbudsmen. Also identifies to theStateLong Term CareOmbudsman thosewhoseremovalofcertificationasLongTerm Care Ombudsmanvolunteeris recommended
- Ensures thatLongTermCareOmbudsmanvolunteers areassigned tofacilitiesinaccordancewith standardssetbytheStateLongTerm CareOmbudsman

- Ensures that all complaints are assigned to anOmbudsman forinvestigationandresolution,and that back-up procedures are implementedforassigning asubstitute Ombudsman in theabsenceof theassignedOmbudsman
- Assures that anyfiles maintained bythe local Ombudsman Program aredisclosed onlyat thediscretion ofthe StateLongTerm CareOmbudsman,and that the identityof anycomplainantor resident ofalongtermcare facilityis notdisclosed unlessspecified bylaw
- Participates in an ongoingprogrameducationandpublic awareness to addresssystematicproblemsandelderabuseaswellas the program’sneed to recruitOmbudsmanvolunteers
- Presents the program’sservices in publicforums, suchas speaking engagements, agencyfairs,radio/televisioninterviews,etc.
- Assists with annualVolunteerRecognitionDayevents
- Provides public information and communityeducation
- CompletesNewYork State mandated 36-hour certificationtraining
- Submits reports,records,etc. in atimelymanner to documentvolunteer and programmaticactivityto theNew YorkState Office of the Long TermOmbudsman in accordancewith therequirements establishedbythe StateOmbudsman
- Conductsother duties asdirectedbythe StateLongTerm CareOmbudsmanProgram.
EducationandExperience:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’sdegree in social work, health, public administration,gerontology,law, or relatedfields
- At least oneyearsexperience in volunteer management
- Experience in programmanagement
- Threeyears ofprogressivelyresponsible experience in thehuman services field, atleast oneyear of which should have been in thearea of agingor longterm care.
- Provenrecord ofstrongbusiness acumen
- Knowledge of the ADA
- Experience advocating and facilitatingILservices forpersonswith disabilities
- Strongreport writingskills
Qualifications:
Thorough knowledgeof advocacyfor older NewYorkers in longterm care facilities; stronginterpersonal, communication, organization, writingandcomputer skills; theabilitytoeffectivelyinteract and work with individualsfromdiversebackgrounds;attention to detail; theabilityto multi-task andwork effectivelyin botha team and individualsetting; flexibilityandabilityto manageacomplexworkload in varied work environments;willingness to travel to
