Course Description

Physical Education is an essential and basic part of the total education program. It is a process that contributes to the total development of every student through physical activity and recognizes the physical, mental, emotional and social characteristics of students. The Physical Education program provides a variety of movement experiences to help all students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to function effectively in society.

Learner Outcomes:

·  Demonstrate basic knowledge and understanding of the rules, terminology, and safety measures for individual and team activities.

·  Demonstrate the basic skills to participate in individual and team sports.

·  Recognize activities that contribute to fitness and understand their value.

·  Perform more precise skills necessary to improve their physical fitness level.

·  Demonstrate positive social relationships through participation in group sport.

Student Responsibility in Physical Education Class

Tardiness

·  Arrive on time to class every day, prepared to exercise and learn. Any student not in his/her assigned squad line (10 minutes after the bell rings) will be marked tardy.

P.E. Attire

·  Students will need an Aguirre Girls PE t-shirt, red shorts and a pair of athletic shoes each day for class.

·  Be prepared for class by changing into workout clothes DAILY. Layering your clothes is NOT acceptable. Wearing your workout clothes underneath your school clothes is NOT acceptable. Please practice good hygiene! You will need athletic shoes, PE uniform and deodorant to keep in your gym locker. If you do NOT change for class, you will lose 10 out of 100 possible points each day you are not dressed for class.

·  Changing time. You will be allowed 10 minutes of changing time at the beginning of class and 10 minutes of changing time at the end of class.

·  Coats, books, and backpacks are NOT allowed in the gym during class.

Electronic Device Policy

·  Cell phones/iPods/mp3 players should NOT be visible during class. The teacher has the right to take any of these devices if they are seen during instruction time.

·  These devices will be confiscated and turned in the appropriate grade level Assistant Principal.

·  The use of mobile devices or any other device capable of capturing images is strictly prohibited in lockers rooms or restroom areas while at school or at a school-related or school-sponsored event. Per the CISD School Board.

Locker Assignments:

You will be given a locker assignment for the school year. Students will need to purchase their own combination lock. Please take care of your locker! Do not leave it unlocked for any reason. Do not give anyone your combination. If your lock is taken from your locker during the year, you must provide your own replacement lock. Any unauthorized placement of locks on non-issued lockers will be removed immediately.

1. GLASS CONTAINERS

2. AEROSOL SPRAY

3. MEDICATION

Grading System:

Dress – 20%

Participation – 50%

Major Test – 20%

Quiz – 10%

Daily Points:

Dressing: each student receives 100 points per grading period. Each time a student fails to bring her P.E uniform/shoes, 10 points are taken from her dressing grade daily. This includes wearing athletics shoes. These points are not recoverable during the grading period for which they were lost.

Participation: Absolute refusal to participate in any classroom activity without prior notice from a parent will result in the student receiving zero participation points for the day.

Medical Excuses

Any student that needs to be excused from participating in physical activity needs to have a note signed by the parent. Any student requiring more than 3 days excused participation will be required to have a Doctor’s Note on file with the School Nurse. Students will be asked to perform other tasks as participation for the day.
