Open Day Brief

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is a well established University known for spearheading innovative research and training professionals who are leaders in the fields of Agriculture, Engineering, Technology, Enterprise Development, Built Environment, Health Sciences and Applied Sciences.With a student population that has now surpassed the 23,000 mark, JKUAT training remains unique because of its broad based approach designed not only to promote the acquisition of knowledge but to as well develop citizens with the right skills and attributes capable of leading the country into a higher growth path with a clear outcome of improved livelihood and decreased poverty levels for our people.

Furthermore, the university has devoted enormous resources into the enterprise of research and innovation that brings close working relationships between professors and their students to promote the culture of research and innovation. The various patented products and innovations that have been developed by JKUAT researchers and are now ready for commercialization is part of JKUAT strategy to popularize industrialization in the country in line with the aspirations of Kenya’s Vision 2030 programme.

To sharein the activities of the university, JKUAT will hold its 2nd Open Day at the main campus in Juja on Friday September, 9, 2011 starting at 9.00am. This is an annual event that offers JKUAT the opportunity to showcase its academic, research, innovations and development opportunities to its stakeholders and the general public.

All faculty departments will be open to the public and stakeholders will have an opportunity to interact with university lecturers, students, researchers and innovators and researchers. They will also get information on academic programmes offered at JKUAT, ongoing research and innovation activities and see the academic and research facilities in various departments.The Open Day provides an extraordinary opportunity for our stakeholders to learn about JKUAT subject areas of interest including;

  • Various academic programmes mainly in engineering, agriculture, Enterprise Development, Built Environment, Health Sciences, computer sciences and other Applied Sciences
  • Engineering and agricultural equipment and machines
  • Value added agricultural products such as, Juices, cordials and, dairy products
  • Chemical products, soaps, detergents and beauty products
