Course Description:

Agricultural Mechanics and Metal Technologies is designed to provide students with an extensive look at the agricultural machinery and the different processes involved to make operations on ranches run on a daily basis. Emphasis will be specifically placed on different welding processes, plumbing systems, electrical systems, fences and fence building, SAE, Record Keeping and Characteristics of Employees in the agricultural mechanics Industry. Students will be required to perform work in the classroom as well as in the shop.

Safety Exam:

The student must pass an approved HISD Safety Test with 100 to participate in shop.

Course Goals/Objectives:

Give an extensive look into the agricultural mechanics industry and prepare students for career in the agricultural mechanics Industry upon graduation.

Materials/Supplied Needed:

● Class Set of Notes-Provided

● PPE-(Long Sleeve shirt and pants closed toed shoes)

● Pens and Pencils

Grading Policy:

● 55% Tests Welding Projects

● 30% Daily Grades(Notes, Daily shop grades and shop clean grades)

● 15% Safety Grades and Quizzes.

o Extra Credit will be given for FFA events/Meetings attended

Course/Program Rules and Expectations for Behavior:

  4. Treat all Classmates, Guests and School Employees with Respect
  5. Have Fun!!!

FFA Information:

All Students are encouraged to become a member of Huffman FFA Chapter. Dues are paid by the Chapter and allow students to explore the leadership, service activities and competitions that the FFA Organization can provide. Membership is highly encouraged and students will be given extra credit for every event and competition they participate in.

Supervised Agricultural Experiences Information:

All students in this class are required to keep and maintain a record book of their SAE project(s). All SAE projects are independently owned and will require a time effort from the students outside of class. The Teacher will help set up and help prepare the SAE but it is the student’s responsibility to maintain their SAE and their Record Book.

General Information About Program Expectations for FFA/SAE/Recordbook:

Every Member of The Huffman FFA Chapter is required to participate in as many activities as possible. They are also required to create their own SAE and Maintain their own record book. These record books will hold all of their information from FFA, classroom and SAE activities and will be used to determine awards and degrees.

Shop Rules

  1. Eye Protection and Necessary safety equipment should be worn at all times.
  2. Per school and safety regulations we DO NOT work on personal vehicles.
  3. Projects must be approved prior to starting by Mr. Duke.
  4. When in the shop proper clothing must be worn-No excuses, if you don’t want your clothes dirty bring clothes to work in at all times. (Always have clothes to weld in)
  5. Any Horseplay at all, will not be tolerated (shoving, fighting, play fighting, practical jokes, mishandling objects) Will result in a discipline consequence.
  6. Use the correct tool for the task at hand, using the incorrect tool could result in damage to the tool or one’s self (Don’t use a screw driver to hammer a nail; Please see Mr. Duke if you are unsure)
  7. Last 5-7 Minutes will be used to clean up in the shop every day (NO EXCEPTIONS) During this time begin winding down on projects; sweeping the floor, putting away tools, shutting down torches, putting unused electrodes back up
  8. Work towards finishing your assignment; stay busy and stay on task
  9. Working in the shop is a PRIVELIDGE not a right. People have become seriously injured, lost limbs and life due to not respecting the shop and the tools that they use. At any given time you will be around corrosive, high electrical, flammable, explosive and sharp materials treat these with the respect that they deserve.
  10. Mr. Duke will not open your locker.
  11. Keep all backpacks and bags in the locker room.
  12. Stay out of Mr. Duke’s office.
