Agricultural machinery: a “dynamic”start for EIMA Agrimach

The first day of the agricultural machinery fair taking place in New Delhi was characterized by a remarkable turn-out. More than eight thousand farmers and economic operators visited the exhibit on the day of its inauguration, visiting stands and attending field tests of machinery and equipment used for processing various types of agricultural goods. A large audience is expected also for today and tomorrow. At the centre of theconferences scheduled for today are the innovations of the Indian productive system and the technologies for a second “green revolution”.

The fifth edition of EIMA Agrimach, the international fair dedicated to agricultural machinery and equipment, is off to an impressive start. It inaugurated yesterday morning at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) Campus in Pusa, New Delhi. The influx of visitors attending the inaugural day was of about eight thousand, of which six thousand were farmers and two thousand were economic operators, according to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation (FederUnacoma), that are the organizers of the event. These figures – a 50% increase in visitors compared to the first day of the previous edition, December 2015 – seem to indicate that in the two days remaining, the ones that in the past have recorded a higher number of visitors, there will be an overall increase of attendance which will mean an even more positive result compared to last year’s edition. A large number of people have gathered already this morning, visiting the stands of the three hundred exhibiting companies and, like yesterday, showing a keen interest in the demonstration tests of tractors, operating machines and tillage equipment which are being carried out in dedicated spaces outside the pavilions – where important conventions on technical and political issues are to be held.

The meeting titled “Game Changers in Indian Agriculture” will analyse the conditions which may foster the competitiveness of the Indian productive system, while the following “plenary session”, titled “Skilling & Training for Future Farming” will focus on the specific theme of professional skills that are required of agricultural operators and the relevant programmes and agronomic and technical training instruments. The morning will come to a close with a meeting dedicated to “Innovations for Next Revolution in Agriculture”, which will address how techniques such as conservative agriculture, no-till seeding, mechanized techniques for the cultivation of rice and the use of drones, may favour a qualitative development of agriculture with a view to sustainability. During the day a great number of events are also scheduled for the economic operators who are part of the official delegations, organized by FederUnacoma in collaboration with the ICE Agency. Following the events held yesterday, which were dedicated to business-to-business between exhibiting companies and operators from Cambodia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar and Thailand, the meeting held today will be attended by delegations from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
