English Vocabulary Profile: User Access Licence

Licence Commencement Date:

Licence Expiry Date:

1. This licence (‘Licence’) covers access to the English Vocabulary Profile (hereafter ‘the EVP’) which is being granted to me for non-commercial research and teaching purposes within my Institution (as detailed below).

2. I acknowledge that the EVP is the property of Cambridge University Press.

3. I undertake not to make copies of any part of the EVP, nor to download or distribute the EVP or any part thereof, nor to disclose its contents, my user name or password to any unauthorised party. I understand that access to the EVP is for my sole use and that any other person wishing to access the EVP must be in possession of a valid and current licence from Cambridge University Press which owns and administers copyright of the EVP data.

4. I will not use the research gained from my access to the EVP in any way other than for non-commercial research and teaching purposes within my Institution (for example in lectures, dissertations and doctoral theses) without the prior written consent of Cambridge University Press.

5. Notwithstanding clause 4 above, further use of my research may be made (including in presentations outside my Institution or in commercial publications) subject to written consent being obtained in advance from Cambridge University Press. For the avoidance of doubt, ‘commercial publications’ shall include without limitation monographs, textbooks and contributed volumes, in any format, and any software programmes based on the EVP data intended to be produced, published and made available for sale by a publisher or like organisation.

6. Further to clause 5 above, I agree that Cambridge University Press shall have the first opportunity to read and consider for publication any proposal for a work in any format that I produce making use of the EVP or of any research based on the use of the EVP. Any work accepted by Cambridge University Press for publication pursuant to this clause 6 shall be the subject of a separate agreement between myself and Cambridge University Press.

7. I understand that permission must be obtained in advance from Cambridge University Press for the use of any extract from the EVP, for whatever purpose.

8. Further to clause 7 above, I agree that, in any publication, presentation, research report or other product (whether commercial or non-commercial) that uses research based on the EVP, I will include an acknowledgement in the following form:

This publication/presentation/research report has made use of the English Vocabulary Profile. This resource is based on extensive research using the Cambridge Learner Corpus and is part of the English Profile programme, which aims to provide evidence about language use that helps to produce better language teaching materials. See http://www.englishprofile.org for more information.

9. My access to the EVP shall terminate automatically upon reaching the Licence Expiry Date unless previously extended in writing by Cambridge University Press.

10. I understand that, in the event of a breach by me of any of the terms of this Licence, this Licence shall automatically terminate and my access to the EVP shall be suspended.

11. This Licence shall be interpreted in all respects in accordance with the Law of England and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
